I see the similarities but unlike JCC Jr. Canelo has shown to be an intelligent boxer and not just some slugger. He has great head/waist movement and counterpunching.

I agree with this. Canelo is a talented boxer no doubt. Just saying that his marketability doesn't match his skill level. We really need to see what happens when Canelo fights at 160

Canelo is a great boxer and a credit to the sport. and its a shame so many boxing "fans" discredit him.
As a young 20something year old he beat B level fighters such as old-Mosley, Gomez, Kermit the frog, Ndou and Lopez.
He beat a very game and talented Trout who had just beaten cotto.
He lost against Mayweather (no shame) as a 23 year old.
Beat the hell out of Angulo.
Probably lost against one of the most dangerous Cubans to have ever graduated from the cuban children boxing school, got the decision in a close fight.
Renders Kirkland unconscious when many people thought it may be a tough fight.
And beat Cotto in a great spectacle of defensive boxing.

People judge too harshly in ESB..

Having said that, Billy Joe Saunders dominates Canelo for 8 rounds in a row.

Cutting weight doesn't make you bigger than your opponent, it's freaking water weight put on over night. Since when does gaining 15 lbs over night make you faster/stronger? Wouldn't a weight cutter be drained?

These Chavez jr-Canelo comparisons are dumb as hell, first off Chavez jr never beat anyone as good as Trout or Lara, or Cotto. Second Chavez Jr didn't have much skill Alvarez is one of the best fighters in boxing and is probably the best combination counter puncher in boxing.
Chavez Jr used to come into the ring at 180-90, outside of Mayweather and possibly Cotto who exactly has Canelo been having a size advantage over??

Trout,Lara, Alvarez,Angulo,&Kirkland rehydrate to around the same weight so where does this argument come from. As far as I know 80% of fighters rehydrate 10+ lbs the day of the fight.

People bring up his close fight's and I say this, point me out a fighter in history that has never had a close fight and I'll show you someone who hasn't fought anyone.

That water is vital to the muscles and other organs. Have you heard about dehydration -- it is exactly about a lack of "just water".

No, gaining 15 lbs overnight doesn't make you better, but young Canelo can do that with far less damage than older fighters.

The advantage is achieved by being bigger and stronger than your opponent.
You dehydrate yourself usually over the course of a week prior to the weigh in enabling the fighter to rehydrate to his actual weight in the 24 hours preceeding the fight,

Medical advances have it possible to rehydrate much mor quickly. Use of IV bags has become very common. Yes, weighing 15 to 20 pounds is obviously advantageous and is why weight classes were establised.

Canelo doesn't have the bottle to fight a Middleweight at the 160 limit, for reasons already mentioned in this thread.

Canelo is what he is. A good to very good fighter, and a very popular one. Nothing wrong or bad with that.

He's made some improvements over the last couple years, such as being more defensively responsible, and he may get better, but probably not by a large amount. It's pretty rare for someone with almost 50 pro fights, even without much amateur background and being 25, to make BIG improvements. They are usually slight to mild, if any.

If he was going to be "exposed", he would have been by now.

Trout,Lara and Cotto are all world class fighters.
