Could Lewis have survived the onslaught that was Manilla?

Personally my opinion is Fraziers extreme hatred of Ali is the main reason Frazier was able to withstand the punishment Ali dished out to him. Though Joe was a quiet dignified man, The mental abuse Ali put him through before those fights, and the extreme hatred in Frazier. Ali wouldn't have stopped Frazier with a shot gun. It was just that Personal. Would Lewis have that same capacity to carry that much hate? I don't think so. Just not his character.So in my opinion no, he wouldn't survive that onslaught that happened in Manila.

 

My opinion is that Manilla was two shot fighters wading in and letting it all hang out. A prime Lewis would have handled either and not have been forced into a life and death battle. Same for a prime Holmes, a prime Tyson and a prime Louis.

 

It's a stupid question which is why you're not getting a straight answer. If Lewis' arms were bound and he was on his knees l'd say no.

But if he's standing up and fighting back he's not taking that punishment. So pick one.

 

Yeah, people need to remember this guy was taken out by Oliver McCall and starched by Hasim Rahman. Most of the greats would destroy him.

 

A prime Lewis wouldn't have needed to get into the position that an almost completely shot Ali and a certainly completely shot Frazier did. In his prime, he had other options. He would have fought differently than those two and not absorbed that kind of punishment. You can't simply take compartmentalize the chin element out of context of the style and ability elements. It simply doesn't work that way.

Is your point that if Lewis was completely defenseless would either fighter in that fight have KO'd him.

Is that the question you're asking?

Seems to me that for some reason you're desperately trying to create some hypothetical situation on which the majority of posters are going to say yes. And only posters such as Zak are predisposed enough to go along with this game.
