Here's the route i'd take him. 3-4 fights in a 3 month stretch against journeymen of various quality like Chisora did recently. Before booking a fight against a highly ranked but extremely beatable European level heavyweight like Hammer. Activity is what matters the most in the HW division, it doesn't really matter against who it's against for the most fight. A couple of soft touches + someone like Hammer would be enough to put Price back in the mix. Now from there it's where the hard begins. Continue rebuilding, or take a massive risk/cash-out against Joshua? :think
As soon as steps up again, he is going to get laid out..fighting a few bums and getting 2nd and 3rd Round KO's will only set him up for another brutal KO loss. If he can go back to plumbing that is what he should do.
Since his confidence is completely shot, he probably needs to fight a whole host of journeyman type fighters who he won't get sparked out by, to regain his confidence.
Plenty of fighters over the decades have had weak chins yet still have had good careers. Some of those fighters like say Floyd Patterson would mainly get back up and fight back and sometimes win, somehow I just don't see that happening with Price, when he's hurt he generally ends up unconscious or helpless. Even if they improve his defences I don't see him having a future.
So if you were promoting Price, you would have him fight against low-level opposition every 8 weeks or so?
Not disagreeing. But this is what he should do if he's to fight on. With the right path he could certainly line himself up a final payday before calling it a day.
Fight people who don't throw back? He was put on his ass by a euro bum with a slight graze on his temple ondrezj pala or someone. His defensive abilities are **** he makes enzo macarenelli look elusive and iron chinned
He can certainly punch hard and quick enough which is why I'd say don't quit yet. Obviously he needs to get tighter, tuck in the chin, clinch with authority and be less square, jab properly. The main thing is confidence which in any sport is vital, he lost that vs Thompson and it's going to very hard to get it back. Teper was on the gear but it still doesn't erode the loss, or the manner of it.
Price needs to do what any fighter should do. Lose, drop a level, fight your way back up, improve along the way or lose again. Wash, rinse, repeat. Eventually all those decent level fights will earn him good money. If he doesn't make it, he's earnt good money. This is boxing and he's always a big shot or the right opponent away from a big win. Maybe one or two quick journeymen to get back into to top shape but it's all a waste of time. He's an Olympian for crying out loud. Ultimately, he needs coaching and strategy. Without those, no matter how many fighters he faces it'll be the same hit and miss.
First thing he needs to do it get some ***** and get rid of his trainer franny smith. Absolute clueless trainer, price been far to loyal to him, should have went with Adam Booth a few years, he needs to get out his comfort zone In Liverpool training in his own gym etc Seeing franny smith and his dad in his corner for his fight with Teper was embarrassing, he needs proper guidance in there experienced good coaches not his dad whose got no boxing background and smith whose amature coach at best.
I know a lot of people wont like it but he needs to take advantage of the way boxing works and fight a lot of guys who don't punch, get himself into a final eliminator or a mandatory slot and then get your big cash out fight and when you punch as hard as he does, he can realistically upset anyone on his day.
