Yup. There's a loss of great skill as a result of it being rendered obsolete by a cheap tactic that relies solely on a loophole in the current scoring system that shouldn't really be there in the first place.
Meant to add: I don't follow-- are you suggesting that it takes less skill to fight the way Mayweather and Rigondeaux fight? :huh If you think that you could have success fighting like them, you are most likely greatly mistaken. I don't understand your logic here. Again, I think you severely underestimate the skill and talent necessary to fight like those guys. The idea of Maidana beating Mayweather in a lopsided decision is preposterous, especially if he tried to do so by fighting a slower paced, more controlled fight. His relentless pressure and aggression was the only way for him to disrupt Mayweather's game. Did everything he could as best as he could and he still only won 4 rounds.
Amateur fighting is 4 rounds of doing anything to score a punch. The "they" are the rules under which AM boxing is scored, which you clearly know nothing about.
Floyd has the ability to knock out Morales. But more than likely be outboxes him the point is that Floyd can make adjustments that Manny can't. It is as simple as that and I don't see the debate here. Are you suggesting we should rank certain fighters higher, specifically because they are less talented?
Ok then, why don't you just admit that you don't really know what you're talking about? You weren't being very truthful when you claimed to have watched Mayweather's earlier fights, were you? :nono
BTW, up for a random trivia question? True or false: Even though Mayweather only has 1 stoppage in his last 10 fights, he still has a somewhat higher career knockout percentage than Wilfred Benitez and a much higher career knockout percentage than Willie Pep?
Only an idiot would ask this question, if he didn't know the answer prior to asking. Just like a good lawyer never asks a question he/she doesn't already know the answer to. So based on that, I'm going to answer true.
Well let's use a different example then. Morales is a natural featherweight whereas Floyd is a natural lightweight. Let's even the playing field and hypothetically have Floyd fight Chavez at 135. How would it go then?
The likes of a Mayweather or Lara stall in fights. They shouldn't have removed the stalling principle. If Mayweather fought in that era with their rules, he'd be brutally knocked out. He's an all-round good fighter for todays era, but would be bested fairly often in the older eras. Max Kellerman touches upon changing the scoring system to how it was, so as to make boxers FIGHT. Wilfried Benitez did it by staying well in punching range, using offence in a larger variety of ways, in particular using offence as his defence. Something a Mayweather doesn't do. Willie Pep fights very well on the inside too and manipulates his opponent well, hence why he was not penalised for 'not fighting'.
You're a troll, I really have no words to say. I know what you'd be saying next, I understand your pattern and it bores me.
Either that's a desperate cop-out or you just don't know what a troll is. Whatever the case, just stop typing ridiculous, over-the-top nonsense about guys like Mayweather and you won't have to worry about me. :hi:
Actually back in the day there was a lot more clinching I'm talking Dempsey and Jack Johnson era. Clinching has always been a part of the game and a defensive tactic. But to say it is worse today is pure ignorance.
