Don't recall seeing this one recently. A technician with a right hand in Schmeling vs the will and endurance of ROck. Discuss.
Good fight but I think Marciano's superior punching ability and durability prevail to break schmeling down mid rounds.
It would take someone with good lateral movement to beat the Rock, but that was not Schmeling's style. Max Schmeling was no doubt a tough fighter and he did beat the great Joe Louis once in his career in a gigantic upset. Schmeling would have no doubt landed some hard punches against Marciano, but it wouldn't have been enough against the most determined, best conditioned fighter in boxing history. Marciano would just simply outlast and outwill the German landing one brutal punch after another and finally sending Max down for the count in the 7th round.
I agree I think the baer fight shows Marciano can outpunch and outlast Shmeling and probably get him out quicker.
Max was good, very underrated, unfortunately best remembered for his one round loss to Louis, but, the Rock would have swarmed him, outlasted him, wore him down, and kayoed him in a late round.
Prime Schmeling was one hell of a well trained athlete. Marciano wins but it's no cakewalk. Max would land that sneaky right hand of his. Problem was that Max tended to set up for the perfect punch rather than let caution fly to the wind. With that caution Schmelings work rate is outpaced by Marciano. Pick here is a tko win for Rocky in 10 rounds. Rocky overwhelms Schmeling with his non stop punching.
