Yeah it's pretty much a given.

no wonder calzaghe waited till jones was in the process of reaching 40something, he would have been destroyed easily by even a 80% jones that tarver struggled with.

it is not unreasonable to suggest that prime jones would have stopped calzaghe in that same round that shot jones dropped him.

calzaghe was the only champ I know who actively waited till guys like this were in the process of reaching 40something or beyond before fighting them.

imagine someone doing this with sugar ray leonard, hagler etc they would be a laughing stock.

Roy actually stated he was 7 out of 10 before the first Tarver fight. And I would probably take Joe to win a close decision over that Roy.

Jones was there for the taking in Tarver 1... Tarver simply didn't stay on him long enough, credit to Roy's body assault. But I think Joe would have outworked him.

On paper, Joe was Roy's worst nightmare.

If he'd have had the will that Tarver had, Roy would have had his hands full. But I just can't envisage it.

In my honest opinion, Joe would never have taken the fight. But if he had've done, I truly believe he'd have been ultra cautious. I think he'd have had too much respect for Roy.

I see Calzaghe stealing rounds with his workrate. Roy from '01-'02 wasn't as fast as he used to be.

I fully respect your opinion. But again, I don't think we'd have seen a typical Joe type performance. He had huge respect for Roy and the danger that he would have faced. You can see that from various comments that he's made over the years. He had to know that Roy was faster, more powerful, and more accurate.

I think he'd have been very tentative which would have taken away his great attributes of workrate and stamina.

Those are my honest opinions. I may have been totally wrong, but that's what I believe would have happened. Psychology plays a huge, huge part in the outcome of a fight.

If I knew that Joe would have possessed Tarver's will, where he crashed pressers to get Roy in the ring, and then hounded him in their actual fights, then my prediction would be that Joe would have caused Roy living hell. But I don't believe he had that inside of him. I think Joe was a great fighter, but one who wouldn't have put himself even into a 50-50 fight, due to his huge ego and him wanting to keep his zero.

Joe was a very smart fighter. But at some point I see him trying to fight fire with fire after he realizes he can not outbox prime Jones.
