Not a bad little card. The main event, despite featuring the only name really known beyond the domestic scene, was actually the worst fight.

 

Now they're hyping up Ioka vs. Reveco II next week. I guess they'll be showing it. :deal

(translation, for those slow on the uptake: we don't have to kill ourselves seeking out Japanese TV options )

 

So, having just looked up this guy that always hosts boxing programming on TyC Sports (both the live Boxeo di Primera cards, serving in the "Jim Lampley" play-by-play role, and the documentary-style Golpe a Golpe analysis scrapbook program that usually follows it) - kind of surprised to find out he was never a boxer or coach or involved with the sport in any capacity before he joined the network and sort of just got assigned the role as their main boxing journo.

His name is Walter Nelson Elbio Meloni and he played soccer, and started his career in broadcasting calling it.

Kind of disappointing. :verysad

...but cool that he did eventually become such a fan of it later in life. :conf

 

...and WOW. They're profiling some upcoming film about boxing (presumably Argentinian produced and having to do with some real or fictional Argentine boxer) and the actress they're interviewing, who apparently plays a lady pugilist, demands to have a Google search performed on her.

GaG now doing a human interest piece on a young amateur boxer. Pretty cool - Sergio Martinez visited him at the gym (in street clothes, oozing swag & style) and gave him some pointers.

They followed the Darío Benitez piece with a complete tearjerker on the Güichapani family.

Raul Güichapani was a pro cruiser in the late 90's, ending on a six loss skid (and losing eight of nine) and seems to be a bit punchy now, maybe unable to work outside training young fighters. His daughter Romina is enjoying success in the amateurs.
