I know he hates Haye, but what is the downside here?

    1) Easy night. Haye had speed and right hand power in his prime. Age and inactivity will have killed the speed. Injury will have killed the power. He never had much of a chin. It would be a walk over.

    2) Big Money. Haye still has his nutthugging fans who believe in him even after he disappointed them a half a dozen times.

    3) Big name on the resume. Despite being totally shot and chinny at heavy in the first place, he is a very respectable name as a two division champ. Would be the second best name with a bullet.

    Make the fight!

A showdown with Fury would also alleviate Haye's financial woes.

For this reason, Haye would be banging the drum for the fight to happen. But given the ill-feeling and lack of sympathy Fury has towards Haye, does Fury really want to give Haye the payday?

I remember at the time seeing an easy win for Haye, and to this day I still think that Haye would KO Fury.

The problem is, after all the talking - Haye pulled out of their fight twice. Keeping Fury out of the ring for the best part of a year.

Fury has just dethroned one of the most dominant heavyweight champions of all time, whereas david haye hasnt fought anyone in nearly 3 and a half years.

I can fully understand why Fury is saying no to the fight

First he has the rematch with Wlad, and maybe if Haye manages to get himself in a mandatory position there might be talks about a fight between the two.

He would be stupid to go into talks with that dude for some voluntary defence, with their history.

Depends how Haye looks, he's only coming back for the money and he was basically forced to retire due to an injury, I have doubts that he is still the same fighter. If he's a one armed fighter due to the shoulder injury it would mean for Fury to beat a badly faded Haye.

But if Haye looks decent then it's a fight that makes sense and a fight I'd want to see. Haye would represent his biggest potential payday apart from rematching Wlad or maybe Povetkin. They have unfinished business and it's an easy sell and would do a lot for Fury in terms of how he is seen in the UK.

Haye stole 6 months of Furies career. They won't be fighting ever.

Haye already wasted/stole what a year of Fury's life? They'll never fight.

I remember when this fight was "made" the blogging community was fairly strong in maintaining Haye would win. Seemed like about 70/30 split on who thought Haye would win vs. who thought Fury or at least an even fight. I considered it a 50/50 fight at the time, a lot of idiots were claiming ow insane it was to even consider Fury had a chance. Even after he called off both fights, people still said Fury was lucky to avoid a beatdown. Nowadays I'd make Fury the overwhelming favorite. Would probably beat a prime Haye, and there are many reasons to doubt that this Haye is remotely at prime.

I wonder if you polled people now what the breakdown would be? Would they recognize they were wrong before, or maintain that they were right in the face of plenty of evidence they were wrong?

he tried twice, and Haye pulled out (as always)

it's a wonder Haye is still married, with all his pulling out at the last moment

if haye was some former atg hw then yes it would constitutea middling defence.

but hes not, and it would be a horrible mediocre defence, at least until haye proved he is a conteder again by beating the next best man without a title (povetkin etc).

I'd love to see Fury fight Haye. But I totally understand if Fury tells Haye to F off and do one. Haye messed Fury around and used up a year of his career for nothing.
