He started his career 87-0. I don't care who you fight, that's not easy to do. And JCC Sr. had some good scalps on his resume to that point.
Yea thats why he lost to Frankie Randall. Chavez wouldn't even beat Cotto. Chavez didn't win 1 round against De La Hoya
No defense? Jesus lol. Sometimes I can't tell if people are trolling or just ignorant. Taylor was always going to be a shooting star though, someone with a short time at the top. Chavez sped up his decline, but his career at the top probably wouldn't have been much different even if he didn't face JCC
This is a terrible thread. Julio Cesar Chavez is one of the best pressure fighters ever. He is extremely scientific, and one of the best body punchers ever. His defence as a pressure fighter is amazing. He's an expert at cutting off the ring. He's everything Abel Sanchez is pushing for Golovkin to be, by his own admission. Julio Cesar Chavez has beaten many beltholders and has the single best win out of Floyd Mayweather's and Chavez's resume: Meldrick Taylor, not semi-shot Pacquiao. Chavez also has many very good wins. He dominated his opposition and was on the way down against his fight vs Pernell Whitaker (which should be a Whitaker victory). Mayweather has Maidana and Castillo problems, let's not get to what Julio Cesar Chavez can do.
Hey meathead, are you saying he's not likes cause he's Mexican ? I couldn't follow exactly what you're trying to say.. something very rare about Mexicans. .. It could be, he's not liked cause he's a mexican.. try that line of thinKing.
Srr, vastly over rated on here, and pretty much everywhere. . The people that are old enough to see him live forget how bad he was from a technical stand point but they along with this generation fan are hopeless when trying to form their own opinion. Having Floyd on any list of being over rated, is again, people unable to form their own opinion and go off what they hear other clowns say. If one with unbias, (I know, almost impossible on here) to compare the level of comp between these 3 fighters, the only fact us floyds is lightyears better than both old fighters.. that can't be argued.. Look at most of the fighters lost to, at least Chavez never lost or struggled mightily with the level Srr lost and got beaten up to. Floyd is hugely under rated on here due to being hated by casuals that don't watch boxing, hating fmj is the right thing to due.. most cannot love any fighter that was too dominant that seeing him lose a couple rounds has haters claiming he really lost. The general public needs one much closer to the everyday moron, so they can build him up and also tear him down once he loses. Floyd never gave anyone that chance, I can already feel the casuals coming to try to carry the myths to higher Hights while trying to tear down the one no one really can, except by showing how much they hate him.. It'll be more nonsense from the casuals...
Depends....what was the highest anyone ever rated him??? Don't remember anyone saying he was going to be some p4p star edit. Oops, thought this was about Jr
Chavez Sr was great, period. I don't understand any argument against his greatness ESPECIALLY if you look at his resume.
Taylor was one,if not, America's best when he was undefeated at the time and in his prime. Chavez was at his best at 130-135, just like Mayweather, but unlike Mayweather, didn't do that great at higher weights simply cuz he wasn't handpicking or cherrypicking his opponents. Meldrick would of gone on to be a great, but Chavez ruined him, a past his prime Chavez. Manny Steward said Chavez had some of the best boxing skills he'd ever seen in a gym, but never used them in the ring. Anyways, I can understand Chavez being called the greatest Mexican fighter due to his popularity and solid wins, but there's always been the growing minority always sided with Sanchez, quality over quantity. Yes, Chavez did fight bums, but he beat very good fighters too. Had he beaten Whitaker, Oscar, and Norris, Id rate him above Sanchez, but truth is, Chavez wasn't in his prime in any of those losses(Whitaker, Dlh).
