Do you care about world title belts anymore?

It's really hard for me to have any interest in them nowadays with the sheer number available.

When you have Fisheyes saying that BJS doesn't feel ready to fight GGG, yet know at the same time he gets to call himself a world champion just like GGG does, it's hard to understand.

Same with Quigg and Frampton. It's easy for them to call it a unification fight (let's face it, it's not), yet neither will face Rigo.

Boxing is killing itself very slowly. As much as I think UFC bores the pants off me, there's a clear structure in place and you know who the champ is at any one weight. It sells to the casual when it's obvious to them who they should be watching.

Sadly boxing will never change.

 

You only have to look at the WBA situation to feel quite deplorable about it.

Who really thinks Blanco is a champion? Or jacobs, Chagaev, Ortiz and Quigg?

 

The UFC is only one governing body inside the Sport of MMA people use them as an example but there are many outside the UFC who call themselves a World Champion and I'm sure you'll find a few who would beat the UFC champions just the same as in boxing. I doubt its long till there is a major break away from the UFC from a wealthy backer because they disagree with something inside the UFC. Boxing has been around far longer and will probably change again. Tell me would you like it if people like Rigo was still the Champ at Super Bantam when he hasn't fought anybody of any note himself in over a year and a half and didn't fight at all for 11 months? boxing is different now, accept it

 

Yes they are corrupt and need improvement but important part of the sport.

 

ufc is the one that gets the main interest though, nobody is that fussed about the likes of bellator, those are like the mma equivalents of the IBO/WBU

There are posts on this forum by members saying they would not watch fight a, b or c because it does not have a belt on the line. And if people who bother to post on boxing forums are that ignorant, it is no wonder the alphabet organizations get away with what they present to the general public...

 

The WBC did the rest just formed by themselves after.

 

No Bob Lee walked out the WBA after losing an election for President in 1983 and formed the IBF. And Ramon Pina Acevedo led a walk out of the WBA by some Central American members in 1988 and formed the WBO.

No. Because of the dilution of world titles, the belts are just pointless props.

We're now at the stage whereby, if a boxer doesn't become a world champion of some sort upon the conclusion of his career, we're all left wondering if that fighter was ever any good in the first place.

 

I suspect Al Haymon has recognised boxing fans' disillusionment with the plethora of world bodies and world titles. He's latched on to the desire to see great fighters in great match-ups irrespective of who is 'world champion'. In fact, if any fighter on his promotions has a belt from one of the governing bodies he strongly leans on them not to bring the belt to the ring. The past couple of years he's been slowly but surely signing up a great roster of fighters, and I think his ultimate aim is to take control of the whole sport, and wrest the power from South America where it still resides. He's not doing this out of any altruistic intent mind you. He's seeing the Dollar signs. If he succeeds the WBA, WBC, WBO & IBF have no-one to blame but themselves for it is they who have split the boxing world asunder by making a mockery of the very belts they place such prestige upon.
