Marciano vs Ali: Great fight or mismatch?

He sliced Quarry up pretty bad as well.

Doesn't matter how many guys Ali actually stopped on cuts.....what matters is the susceptibility of his opponent to cut badly enough to get stopped. Marciano had two fights late in his career that should have or at least could have been stopped because of cuts. I just think Ali would have been successful at opening cuts bad enough for a tko.

Full disclosure: Marciano is one of my favorite fighters and Ali one of my most unfavorite (is that a valid word?) fighters so I'm just trying to be logical and not a hater.

 

Marciano would have a much better chance against Ali, than he would against Liston.

I just think everyone's being over sensitive about cuts here - there was rockys split nose fair enough - but then the likelihood of that kind of cut is literally once in 150 years just not realistic - as I've said previously it's akin to suggesting Hasim Rahman losses any fantasy match on a swollen brick head injury stoppage if he fights anyone likely to class heads with him?? I don't see how anyone can't see the ridiculousness of it - the injury was a once in the history of heavyweight championship boxing freak injury - outside of the split nose the only bad cut he got was the cut eye against Charles but seriously there's no way that it was bad enough to stop a fight no way in the world Marciano was fine and he was coming on like an out of control freight train?? That was basically a re-opening of the same cut that Keene Simmons first inflicted so essentially it was susceptible anyway - other than that Marciano only ever had pretty standard nic's around the eyes nothing major - I'm mean probably Dempsey had worse cuts against Tunney for instance?? People go way over the top calling Marciano a bleeder - Tysons cuts against Holy were far worse than the ones Marciano got against say Louis for instance Tysons eyes were split WIDE open??

 

I don't give him much of a chance against either TBH. One clearly outpoints or stops him on cuts ,the other kos him,imo.

 

The cut against Johny ShKor was major.
The cut against Simmons was major.
The cuts in both Charles fights were major.

Walcott cut him in three places ,the one on his head required 14 stitches.

Ali had 5 stitches inserted after the Foster fight.

 

awesome fight, comes down to minds more thn unbridled unlimited physical toughness of these guys.

 

That's my feeling too Liston would probably run a greater risk of losing by KO, though. Standing toe to toe with Marciano would always entail such a risk.

 

I'd favor Ali, but Rocky would likely be one of his toughest opponents.

 

I don't know how many times I have to say the Simmons cut and the Charles cut were the SAME CUT? Also what you suggest that Ali will cause a cause on Marciano scalp with a jab? How many other times in his career did Marciano get a cut on his scalp??:roll:atschatsch. And you can say that oh Marciano's cut on his head needed 14 stitches - I had a cut on my head in a similar place as a lad and that require 8 stitches and that was the tiniest cut you've ever seen - trust me 14 stitches isn't anything major especially considering they tend to use more for boxers cuts aswell to help seal them up as well as they possibly can? Would you say Holyfield should've been stopped on a cut versus Holmes?? I'd say that was a bout as bad as Marciano's cut eye against Ezz?

 

A cut is always possible but cuts, a split nose....nothing bothered Marciano. He, like Ali, were ATG fighters with attributes of ATG fighters. Will to win, toughness, heart....the ability to continue to fight hard to win no matter the circumstances.

If Frazier with one good punch can give Ali hell in three fights Marciano, a much greater hwt than Frazier, would at least do the same.

 

This is ...and will always be...my all time dream fight.

 

Ps not being pedantic but where abouts was Marciano cut against Archie Moore by the way? Can't for the life of me see any sign of a cut in the film of the fight or in pics from after the fight??

 

The left eye as usual not seriously but that wasn't the stipulation was it?
He was first badly cut against ShKor and it appears to be from that injury most of his future cut problems arose.
Aside of course from his split nose against Charles ,and his head cut against Walcott.
