with lewis in top form and concentration he can outpoint demps but it would be ther toughest test of his career.

Louis would be a fool to mix it with jack, because its true he might well stop him doing that, he might suffer the same fate himself. He would need to bring all his tools to the fight for reasonable certainty of a win on a narrow split decision.

demps best chance is coming on late, I don't think full focused lewis is going to slip up and let him in, even sacrificing an early lead to demps in order to keep him at bay. demps can catch lewis if his concentration drops as the bigger man approaches his stamina limits - though jack needs to push hard throughout the fight to drain lewis thus.

Well thats my opinion of the fight in lewis own era of course, narrow win for lewis if he keeps his guard up. I think in 1920, Dempsey probably stops him, the change in rules and rounds would be too much for lennox to adjust to. Lennox would need a good four or five years spent in the 1910s to make the necessary adjustments in order to facilitate a narrow win or KO win back then.

Which begs the question can Demps adjust to lewis era rules? probably not, he struggled with new rules.

 

I'm not one of those luminaries that thinks size is everything in a fight, but the difference between Dempsey and Lewis is pretty damning to say the least:

It is downright unfair to match up two fighters 50 pounds apart. And why anyone would pick Dempsey to overcome the masssive size advantage on top of a skill advantage is beyond me.

 

It is downright unfair, but they did it back in Dempsey's day.

The result of this policy was that it eventually produced a fighter like Dempsey, who was fairly adept at overcoming this disparity.

I admire the fighters of that era, but I sure as hell don’t want them back.

 

Who do you think has the best resume out of Dempsey and Lewis?

I was under the impression that you thought it best to always rate fighters based on their resumes, even when making h2h picks. If so shall I asume that it is your opinion that Dempsey has the better resume? If so, would you please explain why.

I would pick Lewis based on the fact that I think he beat better fighters, that is, more rated fighters.

 

I actually agree with this (apart from saying Lewis is more skilled) which is why I don't envision Dempsey weighing in at 190 pounds.

In my mind he would be more like 215 pounds.

Still that means he's giving away 30 pounds in weight but it means the fight is a lot more competitive than it would be if he weighed 190 pounds. That being said I still pick Lewis because whilst I think Dempsey is more skilled, I don't think it's by a lot. I have Demosey number 35 in my ATG list and Lewis number 59 so in terms of skill I think their very similar, I just see Dempsey as having more natural athleticism and more fluidity in his punches. But, like I say, the skill advantage isn't enough in my mind to overcome the weight advantage.

I actually think stylistically Dempsey is a nightmare for Lewis, patience at range, exceptional head movement and feet to allow him the ability to slip inside, very quick two fisted power meaning he can do the damage. The problem is whilst at range he's gonna be eating Lewis jabs and when in close he's gonna be eating Lewis uppercuts and that's just two much punishment for someone that much lighter than he.

 

I'm gonna re watch Holy v Lewis 1 and 2 and see if I change my mind onewis against smaller people.

 

Its beyond me too.I wouldn't watch the klitz if they were fighting in my back garden buth they'd both beat Dempsey.

Lewis would most likely win but beyond that it's hard to predict how competitive this fight would be. I suspect not very. What Swag fails to understand in the first round against Tyson was that it was Tyson who was hurt in that round and Lewis' intention wasn'f so much about winning the round as it was about showing Tyson what lay ahead. When Tyson came in he usually either ate an uppercut was manhandled or was leaned on or tied up. So not only was Tyson hurt in the first round he seen many of his options disappear. Far from showing how vulnerable Lewis was, it showed almost a perfect blueplan on how to beat Tyson.

 

Is this when they are dragging him back to his corner by his wrists?
