Why do people talk about "commercial value" so much on here?

I know proffesional boxing is a buisness but that phrase gets branded about so much here it is unbelievable.

In my opinion every boxer has the ability to become a financial commodity if they are given the correct fights, BN doesn't seem to have any massive names but I believe that is more to do with Hearn swallowing up most of the talent these days.

I know people will say Hearns deal with Sky is one of the main reasons behind young boxers signing with Matchroom, but do you really think a Bjs v Eubank Jr 2 fight for example isn't going to do big numbers on a BN ppv?

I think posters on here who only talk about "commercial value" do so because they have no idea about the difference between a screw shot and a bolo uppercut (poor technical knowledge)

They should have all gone on to do business degrees in stead of pretending to fight any one and take on all comers

I think you have to pay your dues first then you can start demanding your Dues. Fans wanna see good fights and guys are too worried about losing fights a dosing value. If your the type of fighter who is worth paying to see you wouldn't think about losing.

Boxing is a commodity, the boxer needs to know their value and make the most of it from fight one. The fighter would be naive to not do this, as promoters and managers will know and screw the boxer over given the slightest chance.

 

BJS is a world champion who couldn't get more than 4000 people into an arena in England to watch him fight an Irishman.

He has zero appeal or value to anyone. The point therefore was that given he will likely try to command large 6 figure purses whilst offering his promoter very little in terms of monetary return what does Fisheyes do?

The biggest thing people seem to forget is that Sky pay Matchroom broadcasting rights for their shows. BN and Queensbury are owned by the same people so there is no flow of TV income, they have to obtain it in different ways. When a fighter attracts less than 4,000 to a world title show but will want the sort of purses BJS will, that's a worry to Fisheyes.

People are grossly overvaluing what sort of PPV numbers the Jr fight would do. BN do not have any sort of platform to generate interest from casuals.

Because they are the typical boxing fan i.e. an absolute moron who will do what ever the establishment tell them to do and believe whatever they are told to.

They think it's acceptable that Hearns can so openly talk about fighters wanting to be PPV fighters and that he'll make it so i.e. take your money and put it in theirs!

 

PPV was around long before Eddie was.

 

How do you know there was less than 4,000 there I was there and for the last fight the arena was pretty packed.

 

Has been reported everywhere and hasn't been denied at all as far as I'm aware.

 

Also, it is not a bit contradictory to say how stupid you think discussions are about "commercial value" when you said in another thread how Selby had told Patel he didn't want to fight unless it was for a title. Surely you realise why he said that?
