Usyk to fight Glowacki for cw title in few months time!!!

Honestly this probably gets aired on PBC, don't think this even makes an HBO undercard. Great fight though.

 

Watched Usyk on You Tube and he is very impressive. Looks like the Poles will be without a belt for awhile unless Szpilka or Glowacki pull off an upset. Glowacki is pretty tough so it should be entertaining but I favor Usyk here.

Lomachenko and Usyk were busy being ATG's and in Loma's case GOAT in the amateurs - which is a different form of boxing and they achieved levels that the names you mentioned, couldn't.

Ya but HBO knows the CW division is not very popular and Usyk is not well known here outside the diehards. I actually would be a bit stunned if this ends up on HBO, though I could be wrong.

 

I think there would be universal applause for what he's doing if he hadn't thrown in that tidbit about Evander Holyfield. That's sort of how I feel about Floyd Mayweather. He's a pretty good boxer, but maybe he shouldn't compare himself to Ray Robinson. If you make the comparison, in your favor, you can expect people to make the same comparison and show it to your disfavor. I know, because I'm the Shakespeare of forum posters.

I wouldn't. When a member of your stable is a showcase fighter for the network, it's easier to get other fighters from your stable on the air. K2's given HBO a bargain with Golovkin, so that'll make HBO more likely to show Usyk now that he's fighting for a title....especially if K2 pitches that Usyk will fight at Heavy in the future.

Also we're comparing completely different sporting cultures. For a long time the former soviet countries couldn't turn pro because it wasn't allowed under communism, so Olympic achievement was the pinnacle of the sport, and in many ways it still is. So for you to just brush off Loma's and Usyk's amateur careers is really ignorant on your part.

That's why so many of these ex soviet fighters turn pro so late, they value their amateur and Olympic achievements too much. A lot of the guys that do turn pro from over there, do so because they weren't good enough or weren't selected to the team. Kovalev admits the only reason he became a pro is because he was angry Beterbiev took his place on the Olympic team, otherwise who knows if he'd ever even become pro
