I know this is blasphemy but let's be serious. This is the only Black fighter you guys can link to Golovkin and I know why and it's not the lack of people to fight but the NAME linked to the fights.

Hagler was fighting guys that were 49-15-0 when he was WBC/WBA champion in his 53 fight and had the nerve to get a UD with the guy too.
Before Duran ate his way up to Middleweight, Haglers best win was re-matching Willie Monroe's daddy, similar to GGG beating Geale.

Hagler also rematched a bunch of guys he knocked out before and the only parts of his career that people remember are the last 4 years starting with Duran, 2 guys no one remembers, Hearns, Mugabi, and Leonard who came out of retirement and embarrassed an active fighter.

Hagler fought from 1973-1987 with only 3 names that matter to everyone.

Duran fought from 1968-2001 with names like Ray Leonard, Wilfred Benitez, Cuevas, Hagler , Thomas, Barkley, Camacho, Pazienza, and Joppy.

Leonard fought from 1977-1997 (with 2 retirements in between, so don't **** on Floyd) with names like Al Haymons brother Bobby Haymon:hey, Floyd's daddy Sr.:hey, Benitez, Hagler, Duran 3x, Hearns 2x, Hagler, Norris, Camacho (if he had of beat Macho he was going to fight Oscar De La Hoya).

Hearns fought from 1977-2006 (with a retirement in between) Cuevas, Leonard, Duran, Hagler, Benitez, Barkley, Hill.

Erase Hagler from the rest resume and they are still great.
Erase them from Haglers and he is GGG.

This goes for a ton of old revered fighters on here. If any of those guys were fighting in today's internet age, they'd all be being picked apart on a minute to minute basis on here. For the record, I'm a huge fan of Hagler's. But you're spot on especially with the GGG comparison.

I really didn't want to go there but people are being ridiculous with the comparisons and pictures of them together and it only started 2 years ago. I was looking through the archives and nobody has ever had a Hagler thread until GGG came along. Now Hagler was a beast so long as he can be linked to a fighter they like.

You and I know that this can be done to every fighter ever but why. We can say Leonard retired to duck Aaron Pryor.
Hagler retired to duck a Hearns rematch.
Duran ducked De La Hoya in his prime.

I'm the biggest hagler and GGG fan, way more GGG but hagler always will have a place with cause I worked so many years where started and created his style over in Brockton MA.

But, there wasn't really anyone there for him to fight as is name fighters until they ate or just grew out of the smaller weights .

What the general public, the casuals and the trolls think of fighters is if you are in grueling fights and win most of them, they think you're a total badass.

Of course, they old school fighters. Well, it's really just old fighters that somehow get so much better the longer they're retired. It's the damdest thing.. they think GGG , Kovalev and the fmj types haven't fought anyone only because they win in such convincing fashion, they have to be fighting low level guys.

Most have no idea what they're seeing in that ring. It's really not that easy when you don't know what's really happening. There's so much going on its easy for people to miss 75% of it.

GGG is much further along that hagler was it this exact stage. GGG has fought the much higher level which kids on these forums are ignorant too.

Could you ever imagine any of the top fighters of our sport fighting a bunch of .500% w/l rates. That is something all these fighters that were so "great" in the past resumes are littered with.

They would get laughed or lose all their rankings. I hope these forums and YouTube ect, god, I hope they're trolls. Because if anyone though a 1000th of what is spewed it's amazing anyone would continue to follow such garbage.

Trolls are so bad, they're begging for a 40 yr old way past it Floyd to ****ing come back... like he hadn't done enough. Beat every top fighter in 4 out of 5 divisions and could've easily been 5 of 5 if there was anyone that deserved to fight one of the very few true atg fighters. When you're closing out the back 9 on day 4 with a 60 stroke lead, does it matter how many strokes you beat your playing partners by when it's all said and done..

Nope, not in the least, about as much as the trolls meam.. nothing

I agree, but just my 2 cents: in regard to what you call a guy that was just 49-15-0...

    Marcos Geraldo:
Losses to Hearns, Hagler, Hill, Nunn, Leonard

Geraldo was your typical Mexican come forward type of fighter. Took on all comers, most on short notice (ie: the Hearns and Hagler fights).

Geraldo was better than his record showed, he gave a good account of himself in the ring at all times. Forcing his opponents to grind out hard fought decisions, or knock outs. He refused to just quit, he was a proud type fighter.

    "Without these fighter.........!" :nut
This thread is garbage, Haglers resume speaks for itself, an ATG without a doubt!

It's so disturbing the way guys start in on great fighters based upon who their favourite modern fighters are. Guys who didn't know anything about fighter X become an overnight expert in their bid to exalt their favourite at the expense of that fighter. I couldn't be bothered to read the entire OP, but it's probably full of "facts". Here are some more.

Hagler won thirteen legitimate world title fights. Hagler has beaten more than a dozen Ring ranked contenders. By my count he managed an incredible nine guys ranked in the top five, including several number one contenders and was ranked among the Ring's top 10 Middles for a decade.

People can "pick apart his record" all they want. He beat everyone until he didn't. Golovkin has a long way to go before he can stand a comparison - actually winning the lineal world title would be a nice way to begin but failing that some of the top contenders? And yes, I know that "the top guys don't want to fight him." Did you know that the top guys didn't want to fight Hagler? Did you know he was ranked the #1 contender for three years before he got his title shot? Did you know that while Golovkin has fought thirty-six fights looking for his legitimate title shot, Hagler fought more? And most importantly of all, did you know that there weren't enough belts for every good fighter to have one in his hayday, so instead of his fans getting to pretend that he had staged a dozen defences of some tin-pot strap-on paper title they just had to wait?

    Nah?

    Shame.

Americans love to view the past with rose-tinted specs because it's a time when they dominated.

Now that the British and Europeans dominate boxing, it's somehow "weak" and all the best American fighters play NASCAR and Hide-And-Seek instead.

I liked Hagler, very good fighter. But GGG would clown him.
