Can someone school me on what BJS is thinking?

Please dont say you buy into the "Murray was extremely unlucky" myth. No - he wasnt.
If anything he has been very very lucky to have gone as far as he has given that he is such a poor boxer.
He got an un-earned shot at Sturm and got a gift draw. The judges were spot on against a badly injured Sergio...etc etc Apart from being freakiskly big - and admittedly tough - at the weight Martin Murray has been poor overall and is completely overrated.

 

What a shock to see a pack of lies from Len in regards to Murray.

Argentinian TV had Murray winning the fight, in fact anyone who can score a fight will tell you he got robbed.

When you factor in the second knock down which was unbelievably not given it is clear as day that Sergio got a hometown fix decision.

I made several points - which point dont you agree with?

 

1. He is a poor boxer: Really can't believe you have said that!! He is technically sound with a good jab and good range of punches

2. Although he may have been lucky to get his shot at Sturm he went over to Germany and gets a draw! He gave Sturm kittens and was very unlucky to not the win.

3. The Martinez fight was a farce for the scorecards, Martin could have picked up the pace quicker but as much as I was a fan of Sergio Martinez who I watched since he beat all of the UK boxers when he was being avoided Sergio didn't do enough to win. Sergio got the win because eh was at home and a legend.

4. Admittedly he was big at the weight although I've heard that BJS is trying to bait him back to middleweight! But he never used his size to just force himself on people, he has always used his boxing and if anything against Sturm and Martinez if heh used his size properly he could have beat them with ease.

I think you sometimes just dislike fighters and no matter what anyone says you will disagree.

 

Actually David I was just having a go at my old sparring partner Two Shakes. :hey But since you are a good serious poster I will try to address some of your points.

1. Murray is a very limited boxer. Stiff mechanical slow with a poor range of punches IMO.

2. Sturm clearly beat Murray (I scored it 116-112 (8-4)and that was being generous to Murray). I suggest you watch it again.

3. Murray had a golden opportunity to beat the much smaller Sergio who was hampered by a wet canvass and injury that night - but the very limited Murray couldnt raise his game to do it.

4. I agree Murray could have used his size to better effect - another of his shortcomings.

He clearly won the fight against Martinez, so I don't understand your comment saying he wasn't able to raise his game.

Seems that your the only person on this thread so far who doesn't think he won that fight..

If he could have gone up through the gears (the gears that a real quality operator has) in the critical later rounds the fight was there to be won. But he couldnt do it. Because Murray is an ordinary plodder not a top-class boxer!

 

Lots of brave talk from people here saying BJS should take the money and get smashed up and KO'd.

BJS has stated several times he's not ready for Golovkin. I'd rather he turned down the fight rather than take a cynical and suicidal move just to line his pockets.

 

its not being brave - its just that his options are limited....

 

Not entirely true mate,

A rematch with Andy Lee, on the domestic front they I'm sure Frank could swing a fight with Nick Blackwell, CEJ rematch, Peter Quillan as an international name or even David Lemieux could all be options at the minute without having to face GGG.

 

My point is that all of these fights carry risk - and for small money.
With his lack of pop BJS is virtually guaranteed a 12 -round fight every time out. A lot can go wrong in 2 rounds. Plus there is the normal wear-and-tear etc etc.
Maybe one big purse is attractive to him. After he loses he can still fight the other guys too you know.....just sayin'......

 

I agree with parts of what you are saying mate regarding the 12 round fights due to him not being a puncher, if he gets a massive purse to fight GGG then he is young enough to come back as long as GGG doesn't do any real damage to him mentally.

The fights i have listed would come with some reward and are not all that big of a risk.

Lemiuex and Quillan get him stateside recognition and both are very winnable fights

CEJ gets them both paid very well and if he were to lose then it would set up a trilogy!! Theres always money in a trilogy! haha

Andy Lee imo would be easier second time round because Andy would need to force the fight this time!

Nick Blackwell would be the worst Risk\Reward because he is strong, game, has a good engine and loads of heart and although BJS is on another level with his skill i would worry about him near the end of the bout due to stamina issues that means he slows at the tale end of fights

 

good points - I think Nick B would grind him down and stop him late. Bad fight for the new champ. :thumbsup
