Finally did research on Roy Jones. He actually did avoid most of the top MW-SMW.

Maybe he underestimated Kovalev's power? The iron chinned old man was in survive mode as soon as he was hit.

    :good

I'm certain that Joe would have beaten Pavlik with absolute ease.

I don't know what he saw in Kovalev. Maybe he thought he was unproven? Also, the fact that he was 50 when he fought him, gained him legendary status. But either way, I had a lot of respect for him for taking the fight. I also respected Kovakev as well, for proving that he's also got good technical ability, as well as just being a knockout machine.

I hope Bernard can go out on a win. I've recently read that he was looking at Abraham or Chudinov at SMW, but apparently both of those guys have got mandatory obligations.

    Possibly.

I think Kovalev could have gotten him out of there had he really have put his foot down on the pedal.

Old Ugly is a legend.. No one can deny him that.. And his junk must swing to his knees like an old bull for fighting Kovalev at 50.. I wish he would have taken 40% to fight Roy back in the day, that was before he fully got recognized as a big name in the business though and I honestly believe B.Hop knew he would likely lose and would not have maximized his career earnings.

On a side note. I think Calzaghe could have really pushed it and got a TKO win against Roy, but let off a little in the end out of respect.

I actually read a while back Roy was singing his hideous rap song in Joe's ear (I despise most rap) saying 46 and 0 instead of the original excuse for a song that said Joe was 45-0

    He is a legend.

It's a real shame he didn't fight Roy in 2002. I wanted to see that more than a Dariusz fight.

    Possibly.

The one thing that I was surprised at though, was that the fight wasn't stopped on that cut. I've seen lots of fights that were stopped on cuts when they were nowhere near as bad as Roy's.

Joe caught him good. And I believe that it was scar tissue that he'd opened up from a recent cut. Just before Roy fought Anthony Hanshaw, he said that he'd been elbowed in a recent game of basketball and that he needed to have a number of stitches in it.

    Ha!

I remember the song in the build up.

The build up was quite good in England. As well as receiving the 24/7's, there were good features on both guys on Setanta Sports. Roy was really open and he gave access for some good interviews. And it was also nice to see both guys being so respectful of one another. Also, were you aware that both guys had originally spoke of having two fights?

Loudon,I am too drunk now to respond properly and usually always posting from my phone and can barely read it. Lol..

I didn't know that about the cut. But Roy still had good power and hit Joe with a few decent shots...I think it was a right uppercut that made Joe look up at the lights, but he pretty much walked right through it...That shot would have hurt many fighters. Joe still had an adequate chin in his last fight

You need to be drunk to read Joe Zero's posts.

Yes, Joe had a great chin. But Roy didn't catch him properly. A lot of people think it was a foul, but I don't think it was intentional at all. I think it was just a mistimed shot.

Had Roy caught Joe right I think it may have hurt him even more.. That is just my opinion though..

Watching the video Serge posted of Eubank hitting Joe made me remember how many times Eubank caught him.. He is no light hitter, and Joe walked through it all. His chin was very good.:good
