Lets put this clown straight ....

1 Lennox Lewis took on his #1 contender at a weeks notice when Kirk Johnson backed out. We all knew Kirk was not training properly & neither was Lennox he was barely 80% ready. Vitali was 100% ready

2 Lennox nearly took Vitali's face off !! Anyway if the cuts hadn't happened Vitali wouldn't have lasted the next round. Remember that uppercut that nearly took Vitali's head off ? He didn't know if he was in Vegas or Vladivostok LOL

3 What was the point in a rematch an overweight out of shape Lennox TKO'd Vitali in 6. Why bother again?? Wlad ran for the hills in fear & I don't blame him. So Lennox had nothing left to prove & retired a Happy Healthy Wealthy man. Have you seen his fantastic home in Jamaica?? I have:good:hi:

Lewis would probably be considered the GOAT if he beat Vitali AND Wlad.

If he had decisively beaten Vitali and Wlad, without the sense that he was getting pushed aside and would lose if he tried to fight them again, he would deserve to be considered the GOAT.

He's got better wins imo than any other hw in history. The problem was it just wasn't as dramatic as Ali, it didn't flow right. It felt like he was lucky to escape his fight against Vitali and then wouldn't rematch him because defeat was too likely.

I think its entirely possible that if he had rematched Vitali, he would have won more decisively. And then if he'd beaten Wlad (say Wlad fights him instead of Brewster)? Game over.

If he had definitively beat Vitali, winning more rounds and canvass koing him or got a decision, and then followed it up with a similar win over Wlad, and both of the K brothers performed as well later in their career, LL would be head and shoulders the GOAT.

And if he fought and beat Byrd, Ruiz, and Sanders, meaning he beat EVERYONE.

With those guys and the Klits on his resume, he'd be considered the GOAT without a doubt.

The Mavrovic fight was a blast to watch at the time because everyone thought Lennox would come out and starch him in 1 or 2 and it goes the distance.
I remember thinking if Mav wasn't outweighed by at least 30lbs he probably would've handed Lennox his @ss.

This does show Lennox's limitations against a boxer.

Ali would have danced around him.

A bit late, but Happy New Year Andrew.

You think that Lennox has the best HW wins in history?

Hi Loudon. Yes, I'd rate him slightly above Ali for that, but would give Ali the better overall career. Ali's career was more dramatic, more of a cohesive storyline. Plus dominated two eras. Lewis dominated one era, but it wasn't really clear he dominated it until it was all over.

    Q. Why did Lennox Lewis refuse a rematch.

    A. Because Vitali kicked his ass
    B. Because he won a fluke decision
    C. Because he luckily cutting his open while getting his ass kicked
    D. All of the above

    Answer: D

    You forgot:

    E. He had been boxing for 30 years and was tired of it. The same reason Calzaghe didn't rematch Hopkins.

    Guys, let's try it again:

    Lewis beat Vitali
    Mayweather beat Paquiao

    Move on with your lives.

    :good

    I respect your opinion.

I'm struggling to see how Lennox has the best wins though.

The fact you think Merovic was a 90's Wach proves what you know about boxing - absolutely nothing.

Marovic was a decent tactician. Very crafty and held all the tools in his box. Lewis prime and firing on all cylinders had all sorts of trouble against him. Mainly due to nimble movement and a very dangerous counter right hand. A right hand that used to render guys a twitching mess on the canvas.
He won a good few rounds from Lewis in a competitive chess match. Wach - an absolute appalling boxer with no skills whatsoever lost every round to Wlad.

The two fights are not comparable in any shape of form.

Every time there's a Wlad thread, it's UnleashTHEFURY vs Dinovelvet. ROFl

UTF doesn't know too much about boxing, it's clear. But he tries.
