I'm actually debating with a poster on here who said Frazier didn't do better in his second fight.:-(
Frazier was shot for Foreman II, progressively arthritic, nearly 25 pounds above his peak weight, legally blind, to the point where he went in to the fight, wearing contact lens(which got knocked out) to try to restore some of his vision.
Despite all this, Frazier lasted longer on his feet than any defeated opponent of George's in his wins between Peralta II and Jimmy Young. That gets overlooked. Lyle got dropped twice in the fourth, while Pires, although never knocked off his feet, did not answer the bell for round five. Old, arthritic, overweight, and blind Joe Frazier is the ONLY one of Foreman's defeated opponents between Peralta II and Young to answer the bell for round five without having yet been dropped in the match. :think

A combination of a different strategy and Foreman trying to box patiently allowed Joe to survive longer but he could only delay the inevitable.

Well, you could argue that he won a round so I'd say yes.

Yes, he did better. It would be hard not to the way he got destroyed in the first fight.

The second part of your post is cut and pasted from a previous thread and has been discussed ad nauseum.

The poll needs another answer option for those who think he did better in the second fight but can understand why one ask the question.

Keep changing the question and maybe just maybe a few more will agree with you. What are you 15?

Two things struck me when revisiting these two fights:

    1. Foreman looked like the one who had declined the most in sharpness. Frazoer had undoubtedly declined more physically, but Foreman looked sluggish in a way he didn't in the first.

    2. Frazier's best shots didn't have much effect in the rematch either while Foreman still backed Frazier up with ease. Joe hit Foreman with a beauty in the second round, but all it did was make George take two steps back before immediately continuing to force Jpe back into the corner.

The second point is why I can't see Frazier having success against Foreman. He'd have to have a Toney-Barkley like performance to overcome the disparity in strength and power between himself and George, and he just didn't have that kind of skill.
