    :huh

I'm referring to the final fight in the trilogy. I was there that night. Everybody there, had the fight coming down to the fifth round. Norton gave it, and the fight away. He landed one jab in the first two minutes and two in the last thirty seconds.

Everybody? I think it's split, but I've always thought most people thought ali won

In the third fight? I guess it's fair to say split. But on this forum, most people think Norton was robbed.

Norton was robbed (third fight); Young was robbed and in my opinion Shavers was too.

A large majority at ringside gave the fight to Norton. This would include the three commentators for the bouts closed circuit broadcast. Because this decision was considered so bad they began experimenting with revealing official scorecards after every round. So YES the bouts decision was considered highly controversial. I was there live at Yankeee stadium and I found the bout then and now very close and difficult to score.

to clarify, I didn't mean split, as in a draw, I meant split as in half thought ali won, and half thought Norton won. Well, actually not an even split, I think more people thought ali won, because I think most people actually think his urine can cure cancer. Of course Young and Shavers were robbed, maybe Norton too.

I saw the third bout between Muhammad Ali and Ken Norton on closed-circuit television, coming away with the feeling that Norton should have been given the decision.

. . .because he won s majority of the rounds. Ali acknowledged to Norton that he should have been given the nod.

I've seen the fight many times since '76 and remain convinced that Norton won that fight...and was robbed, just as Jimmy Young was robbed vs Ali as well.

Ken won the first and third fights clearly. The second fight was close, I had it a draw.

The majority at ringside scored it for Norton.

One of the New York papers said after the 3rd fight in Yankee Stadium in 1976...
"If Ali won that fight last night...then the Japanese won WWII"...the feeling back then was that Norton won...that they gave the fight to Ali because of who he was..
...not for what he had done in the ring. He was given the decisions over Norton...
...Jimmy Young...etc, because of his name. If he was Joe Schmoe...he would have lost.

I'm sorry but Ali did not deserve to lose his title.

Norton over paced himself, it remained too close a fight to score because Ken was wary of the 15 round distance. He should have dominated Ali because Ali was not good enough to do anything about it if Ken had of wanted to put the heat on him. It was Norton's chance but he blew it.

Norton was the better man by far but he showed caution and allowed Ali to make rounds close.

The way I had it scored it was all on the last round. And Ali got up on his toes and scored the points to win that round. Norton did not do enough.

I think Norton won all 3 fights with Ali, although the second one is very hard to score and I'm not as sure about that one as I once was! Ali just struggled with Norton and would do if they fought 100 times.
