JMM and Nacho Beristain wanted this fight before Marquez got injured, they even proposed it at 150 lbs.
Don't know for sure what Cotto had to say about this, but since there wasn't ever a quote from him on it, I doubt he had any interest in seeing Marquez take him to school.

This is the type of matchup now that Miguel Cotto would pursue as he's made a living on fighting past champions that are coming in nursing serious injuries.

Built in excuses for this great match up.

Excuse 1: Cotto is too big to fight at 147 will be drained if he moves that far down and loses to Marquez.

Excuse 2: Marquez is too old and too small to fight Cotto. It will be seen as the bigger guy picking on the smaller guy if Cotto wins.

Excuse 3: If Marquez has not fought since 2014. Ring rust.

Excuse 4: Marquez is on something if he drops Cotto because the bigger Canelo could not do it.

    on and on...

I really doubt Cotto would drop down to 147 for any fight, at this point of his career. Marquez has been inactive for a while now and will need a tune up before facing someone of Cotto's caliber.

I would much rather see Tim Bradley fight Cotto at 154

Na Jmm is done man. Pre-2013 woulda been a great fight tho, IF Cotto coulda made weight. Cotto could still win a belt NOW at 154 if he wanted and I think he could beat Saunders too. Maybe even Jacobs.
