Mike Tyson "Tyson Fury best heavyweight since me"

Interesting words from the former Champ. I still think it's way too early to put Fury in that bracket, but to be fair to the man he has improved a hell of a lot over the last 3 years & if he keeps on improving, who knows maybe Tyson could have a point.

The only person who can stop Fury dominating for the next few years is Fury himself.

I see no challenges for him...the Wlad rematch is all he needs to worry about.

 

My hat goes off to Fury for his accomplishment in beat Wladimir, in a fight he was a heavy underdog.

BUT

How people see him as great as they do, I dont understand. Fundamentally, as a boxer he is not great. People talk about his movement...sure he is a massive lad but his movement is not world class.
He gets credit more because of his size than anything as far as his technique is concerned. He doesn't have one punch KO power & lacks the hand speed of others in the division.

Fury usually wears out fighters by using his size and tires them to the point that they leave themselves open. Put him against someone who uses good footwork, handspeed and can fight outside and
fury has a hell of a fight on his hands.

I dont mean to be "that guy" but little Cunningham landed numerous overhands on Fury. If that was Haye, Wilder, Fury, Parker, Klitchko he would have been in trouble...

I see him being beaten in his first 2 years as a champion.

List of people I see as very competitive opponents:

- Wlad Klitschko
- Alexander Povetkin
- Anthony Joshua
- Joseph Parker
- David Haye

After seeing Fury get checked against 3/4 of his last opponents. I just dont see him staying where he is... hes just not that good.

Not that it takes away from his win against Wladimir. But, I believe that fight saw more of a decline in Klitschko than it did in improvement in Fury.

Just my 2cents.

 

yeah I agree, I have no problem if Fury proves me wrong, I simply wasn't as impressed with his victory over vlad as some.

 

Fury is good, but he still needs to improve to get anywhere near the legacy of Lewis, Wlad or Vitali.

Starting with the Chisora fight, Fury, has shown that he can fight well of the back foot. He can be elusive and counter, particularly with the left hook. However, he has still yet to show that he isn't as open and clumsy going forward as he was pre Chisora.

With his elusiveness and height and reach he will be a handful for any HW. However, he may not be able to get away with the same game plan against every HW and he is noticeably less exciting to watch for many fans.

While what he did was a great achievement, I didn't see the promise of a future dominant champion either.

 

The problem Fury had throughout his career was he was a frustrated fighter beating up men he saw as inferior and he could beat at their own game even though he could beat them like Wlad hugging and jabbing all night long.

Then came along his biggest test that allowed him to step up to a level which he himself wanted to be at and felt like he belonged at...and guess what? he was victorious and did everything he promised.

Living legend. So many frauds in boxing at the moment and Fury really isn't one of them. He has flaws but he won't hide them. He has already said it himself 50,000 times he is just a man with a pair of boxing gloves and at heavyweight all it takes it 1 punch and he himself could be on that canvas...but he will get back up...

My opinion of him has done a full 180 in the past 18-24 months. Many people still have their reservations though just because he got KTF down by cunningham and he fails at bieng spectacular although I think everything he did against Wlad was spectacular if you can appreciate the intricacies and finer details of boxing.

The only thing you can bash him on are his slightly outdated opinions & world views but i'm here to watch a man box not become a politically correct media darling...and yet again we go back to what the man himself who says he is not a puppet for anyone.

 

Respectfully I disagree with all of that. A guy his size with his skills will dominate. The smaller guys he can lean on and bully and the big guys he can outbox from the outside. Best thing is Fury is going to get better and I don't believe he has reached his peak.

 

It took Lennox Lewis until 1999 just to get taken seriously. It wasn't until after the Rahman rematch in 2001 that I first heard ANYONE talk about him as an all-time great (that man was Ian Darke on the commentary team that night).

Any other versions of the LL legacy are bullshine.



Any talk of Fury being an all-timer at this stage is way too premature. And I say that as a Fury fan.

Tyson is most likely punch drunk. Both Klits are better than both of them.

 

Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Sugar Nicolay Valuev were all solid champions who Tyson can never beat in any form of himself.

Wilder/Fury both are further evolved than Iron Mike :smoke
