How can race not be an issue with Dempsey, the guy blatantly avoided the best guys who just happened to be black. Just because he beat the best of the rest (who were predominantly white lhws) doesnt mean he beats a guy whose lvl of comp was miles better.

Hey TROLL, until you understand English let S speak for himself. If anyone accuses me of my posting an opinion on this site stating I picked Holyfield over Dempsey or Dempsey over Holyfield, he is a damn liar...And you re an idiot when I rightfully defend myself from a poster who lied about me posting something on this thread I NEVER did as I have great respect for both of these men...I've been on this site a good many years and I don't need any lectures from the likes of you troll.

Look K, I have avoided getting into verbal fisticuffs with you as it is pointless, but contrary to your once denying my age, I too have as much knowledge of Jack Dempsey and his place in history as you have.
You place him in the boxing pantheon as just a step up over Butterbean
such is your constant bashing of him...I on the other hand believe his great talents in his prime as stated by numerous contemporaries of his who saw him in the ring ,and told me about him when I was growing up. I also believe a Sam Langford, a Mickey Walker, a Gene tunney, a Jack Sharkey, a Max Schmeling, a Ray Arcel etc, knew a helluva lot more than YOU or I, when they stated he was the best heavyweight they had ever seen. Whose opinion is more closer to the truth you K, or their considerable opinion ? And this B.S. about Dempsey AVOIDING black fighters [plural] is bogus. By the time Dempsey became champion a Langford, McVea, Jack Johnson were all close to their 40s, and only Harry Wills was clse to his prime..
And though they did sign with a Michigan promoter the fight was canceled as the promoter couldn't come up with the proper funds..
Did Harry Wills deserve a title shot with Dempsey ? HELL YES.
But to say Dempsey avoided contact with black fighters those days is
FALSE. His sparring partners who he employed such as bill Tate, George Godfrey, Clay Turner etc ,were non whites who Dempsey employed while he was fighting and later on he took care of their financial bills with George godfrey, John Lester Johnson etc. So to smear this beloved decent man Jack Dempsey as a racist coward in his fighting days is a lie, and a slur to the millions of his fans of all colors who thought the world of him..Dempsey did not become the "idol of millions" and the greatest ring attraction of all time by
deception. He was a mean cuss in the ring and a beloved gentleman
when he retired to the end of his long life..

holyfield would rip dempsey with little effort. i don't think there's any fighter pre robinson who is good enough to compete with fighters that came after. when you compare footage of fights in holyfield's era with fights in dempsey's era you can clearly see a superiority in pretty much every aspect of boxing in holyfield's footage. this shouldn't even be debated.

I think the whole fight stems on the bodywork Dempsey does. I like Evander's chin a lot but never felt he took it very well to the breadbasket. Funny how lots of the good chin guys are like that.

I would lean towrds Jack doing the body damage necessary to create the openings upstairs & slow down the mobility of Evander. If Evander loses his legs against this guy, those combos will be brutal to absorb.

At any rate, the loser would leave a lot of himself in the ring and likely would never be close to the same. Actually, the winner may have to dig so deep the deterioration factor would start a downwards spiral career wise. Tough tough fight.3 fight series goes 2-1, neither is going 3-0 against the other guy.
