Let's face it: it had nothing to do with Spinks' supposed prime.

Well it certainly wasn't the Spinks who fought Holmes and nor was buster douglas his opponent that evening.

You can see earlier in the thread that I picked Spinks. But I never noticed any evidence that Spinks ever was past prime. The most common way to lose to Tyson was basically what happened in that fight.

Spinks came into that fight after having been off for a whole year.. And it had been more than TWO years since he met a "meaningful"opponent. He was about a week shy of his 32nd birthday. He had been talking about retirement for some time.. His physique certainly didn't look ideal at a career high 212 lbs.. And on fight night he looked about as excited to be in there as a man looks when he's about to get a prostate check. Those are enough indicators to me that his better days were behind him. That said I'd still pick Tyson to make short work of him regardless of how he turned up.. But my point is that the Tyson who Douglas beat wasn't the Tyson who beat Spinks. And the Spinks who Tyson beat wasn't the Spinks who beat Holmes. There are too many disconnects to use the two performances with Tyson to draw any conclusion about how Spinks and douglas would fair against each other.. It's about as futile as comparing how they did against Stephen Tangstad for the very same reasons of timing.

There is no version of spinks that beats the Tyson that Douglass knocked out. No way no how

Moot point to me in this case. However I will concede that you seem to know more about both of these guys than me
