Ray Leonard faces off against Jose Mantequilla Napoles, both at their best over 15 rounds, how do you have it?
Reckon we might see something similar to Leonard-Benitez; a good, even fight with Leonard slowly taking over and winning via late stoppage.
Leonard stops Napoles in the latter stages of a very good fight. With one exception, stand up Walker Smith,I would back Leoanrd against any welter in history on each man's best night
This. I loved how Napoles fought, so seamless and so adept at fighting within himself and showing so few obvious flaws to exploit, but Leonard was the more dynamic fighter. He had that extra gear that Napoles didn't have........
Leonard does literally everything better than Napoles ... which is saying something, no dig at Jose. SRL UD 15 pulling away in the second half of the fight for a comfortable margin on the scorecards.
I've actually spent more time watching Napoles and I am more inclined to give this fight to him. I just think he was the smarter more experienced boxer of the two. The only down side is his cutting problems and I Leonard is the good enough puncher to open him up.
I respect everyone's opinion in this thread, I just now believe the Mantequilla was too slick and crafty for SRL.
