Mercer was a tank. Golota would fall apart under the pressure.

Golota should win a decision. He's just too skilled for Ray.

Like the Ferguson fight but Golota accepts the pay off and gets dqed for biting Mercers nuts off.

    "That wasn't the deal!"

Golota had some good skills and was a big heavyweight, but Mercer was mentally tougher. I like Ray convincingly.

Golota was an excellent fighter on paper but his mental make up was a complete mess.

Yes, he looked nice against a grotesquely out of shape Bowe, but he lost those fights. He also lost to Grant, Tyson, Lewis and just about any heavyweight he fought with pop. Can anyone tell me what Golotas best win is? A 40 year old Witherspoon? Maybe Byrd and Ruiz, but both were light-hitting, small heavys. Mercer is an indestructible tank with 2 heavy hands and a far stronger mentality. No way Golota wins.

Ruiz was 230 and managed to drop Holyfield, seriously hurting him.

This thing could end up looking like the Damiani fight, but with more brawling.

Mercer walks right threw his punches and Golata has a meltdown soon afterwards. Either gets ktfo or dqed or quits.

Mercer. I agree, Golota is a bit more skilled, but, he will fold when Mercer doesn't crack. And a prime Mercer is not going to crack against Golota. (Golota would, however, beat the versions of Mercer who lost to Ferguson or Klitchko)

There is a 9 year difference between the Wlad and Ferguson fights.

Mercer was the same weight for the first Ferguson fight as he was for the Lewis fight a bit later.

Mercer was the same weight for Holyfield as he was for the second Ferguson fight, which he also arguably lost and was outboxed in.

Mercer just not as good as often advertised. The full context of his signature performances against Evander and Lewis not considered. He was a comeback opponent for Holyfield, who had been retired and out of the ring for a year. He was Lewis first stern test since the McCall disaster and to many observers was gifted in his next fight.

Like everyone else: Golota more skilled, Mercer just all around tougher. Ray would ko him in the second half of the fight.

This fight was signed for Aug 1997 and Mercer pulled out.
