CEj is a very impressive athlete...there is no denying this. He can do more arm flaps per round than any other middleweight. But they are just arruuum puncheese as Jim watt says. Also I have a funny feeling that if spike could have hung in there a round or two longer..like Blackwell will....that things might have got interesting.....

Spike was stiffening him whenever he landed, and Eubank was starting to blow.

You already know my feelings about the finish.

I think Spike had the beating of him.

I'll give you this Two shakes - you know your boxing. Despite our occasional differences I respect your opinion. But I think this time you're going a bit too far with the conspiracy stuff.

That said, even I, as a Spike fan, found it peculiar that Spike, after all that training, could only manage 3 meaningful rounds of boxing.
(During which he had plenty of encouragement - he hurt CEJ at least 4 times that I saw.)
If CEJ was to punch Spike for a year I doubt he would ko him. Spike is as hard as nails and one thing the fight did confirm is that Junior aint no ko puncher - thats for sure.

IMO he is world class. A tough nights work for anyone bar GGG. Even if he were to fight Quillin Lee Cotto Canelo etc I think it would be competitive and not one-sided by any means, even if he were to lose.

That is not to say he has not got flaws - even major flaws.
He is a very slow starter, gives a lot of early rounds away, often against opponents where he should be beating them right from the start.

Also, while he does raise his game for 'big' fights, he seems to have trouble motivating himself for 'lesser' small-money fights against low-level opponents. You cant afford this attitude in boxing.

He can be a bit one-paced and predictable, lacks a bit of 'ring generalship', - for example he struggled to figure Ryder out, which could spell trouble against top guys. He just might be a bit too reliant on his one-dimensional 'grinder' approach always working. It usually does work, but he needs to add a few extra dimensions to his game if he is to thrive and prosper long-term at world level.

I like watching Nick Blackwell but just going on your own post there I think it is quite clear he isn't world class just yet!

I'm not saying he will never be world class but imo he gets comfortably beaten by the top dogs at Middleweight. Would like to see him fight at Euro level a couple of times before he tries stepping up to world level.

I think the CEJ fight tells us how far each of them can go imo.

I deliberately emphasised the negative in my post Dave since I - and others - have emphasised the positive plenty often, and i wanted to give a full and fair and impartial view as much as possible.

I seriously doubt he gets 'comfortably beaten' by anyone bar GGG.

You are right about the CEJ fight - we will know a lot more about both of 'em both after they meet.
    Cheers. :thumbsup

Here are the other champions at Middleweight:

Billy Joe Saunders: Although improved i see Nick Blackwell being outpointed by wide decision because his footwork at the minute is no where near good enough to pin BJS down.

Danny Jacobs: This is one where we would find out if Danny Jacobs will be around at this level for long. Going on recent form with Nick Blackwell starting very very slowly and losing the early rounds and I'm not sure no matter how tough Nick Blackwell is if his face could take flush shots from Danny Jacobs whilst he gets into his rhythm. I'm not saying he would get KO'd but after a few rounds his face would be marked up and possibly swollen and cut. If he tightened his defence and started quicker then he would have a better chance. This would be the 1 I give him more of a chance with but still a hard task.

Saul Alvarez: Canelo imo would be too smart and just as big as Nick Blackwell come fight time and wouldn't get pushed about by him. Nick's ring IQ would let him down against Canelo and he would walk into quite a lot of check left hooks! Could you see him with his slow starts getting anything else than comfortably beaten on points especially when the fight would take place in Las Vegas?

I think Nick would be competitive in these bouts but that doesn't mean that he wouldn't get beaten comfortably mate but I like Nick and CEJ and tbh no matter what the outcome is they can both come again! I see CEJ as slightly more polished of the 2 skill wise but the improvements that Nick has made means that at some point he could well be world class!!
