Foreman vs Lewis

Lewis only flew into Johannesburg from the United States with less than two weeks to go before the fight.

Bob Mee reported in The Telegraph that the South African doctors who examined Lewis diagnosed him with “extreme jet lag” on his arrival.

He had based his training camp in Las Vegas but still managed to take the time out of his schedule to do three days of filming on the set of Ocean’s Eleven, starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts.

Rahman, in contrast, had travelled well in advance of fight night, arriving around a month early to help him adjust to his surroundings. He had already been getting acclimatised to the altitude by working out in New York's Catskill Mountains, per Dan Rafael of USA Today.

Having prepared diligently, the man from Baltimore was adamant he could upset the odds.

I certainly don't recall any case whatsoever. Everyone knows that Lewis fought much bigger and harder punching guys than the 6' Liston ever did. Save your bs for someone who hasn't been following boxing longer than you've been alive.

Wrong.. George chuvalo was a ranked contender for the better part of a decade.. George Johnson was a tomato can and one who incidentally was also KO'd by Amos Lincoln, Thad spencer, Earnie Cab and Todd herring not to mention being stopped in general on 12 total occasions... Are saying that THIS is your argument supporting that Ron lyle hit harder than a proven ATG who made a career of stopping ranked opponents ?

 

All of the above is true, but the blame can only be laid fairly, and squarely on Lewis' shoulders. He chose to sue Panos Eliados, he chose to sign for some stupid movie, where people can hang around for days just to shoot a couple of minutes of actual film.

He simply didn't take Rahman seriously enough and deservedly paid the price, the arrogant fool.

No doubt about it, in terms of what you are saying but the point is, this definitely affected his ability to perform that night and contributed to him getting KO'd. Hell if his hands were held any lower he could have tied his shoes.

 

Not sure if I'm in the minority or not, but what does it really matter?

Do you think boxing is only the sum of one's power and chin? Cause you sure seem to place a lot of emphasis on both of these.

And you're obviously not grasping my point that a handful of journeyman also did what neither Foreman or Liston could do either. Lyle and foreman slugged it out at mid ring throwing everything each of them had.. Holyfield "boxed" foreman and a version who actually had a defense. You're trying to use 1-2 fights to shove this idea down peoples throats when 1. They are irrelevant for reasons already provided and 2. Holyfield's superior power was demonstrated in numerous fights.... I mean George Johnson??? Seriously ???

 

The argument between Lewis and Lyle (or whoever) and punching power gets ridiculous. The timing, the placement, the conditioning, etc. are all involved. Was the fighter pulling away, not concentrating, in a bad position, etc? Many variables.
