Golovkin's footwork is the best in decades

    He keeps his shoulders squared and he shifts.

    He's never, ever off balance.

    He cuts off the ring. Ever notice how his opponents are always in an unfavorable position? Often times against the ropes? He's using lateral L steps in actual fights. Nobody can ever circle or get out of his pressure. He's always there.

    Also he's never out of range. He knows so many techniques from anywhere in the ring to land a punch from anywhere. All that's possible because of the footwork.

    Also his jab is so heavy and accurate and well timed that people can't disrupt his footwork. If you try and blitz him and disrupt his balance you end up taking a sledgehammer jab to the face.

    I guess you have never seen a prime Hopkins fight? Hopkins footwork prime is light years beyond GGG's.:deal Hell even Ward has better footwork and so is Rigo's for that matter.

    For a fighter who primarily comes forward, he's one of the best. His efficacy in cutting off the ring is brilliant.

    Golovkin appears to have good footwork because he is always dictating the action in the fight. I would be interested to see how good his footwork would be if he had to fight off the back foot

    With the guys he's been facing, there has been no need. If he moves up in weight and faces a guy like Ward, who is stronger than him and will back him up, it will be interesting to see how good his footwork is then.

    I would love to see how good his footwork would be in the ring with someone like Ward who can fight at all ranges.

    Well Ward is a light heavy. Boxing has weight classes to eliminate size advantages.

    I was thinking about GGG having to fight off backfoot. But nobody today would make him do it at MW.

    Nigel Benn IMO would be the hardest MW for GGG to come forward against.

    GGG fans are always going to use that ****. What's going to be said when GGG finally moves up? "Oh Wards a LHW, He's too big for GGG".:-(

    GGG isn't going to have to move up because his body will never have trouble making 160.

    Are you talking about early prime Hopkins or later prime Hopkins or middle prime Hopkins?
    The guy's had a long prime time to get his footwork down.
