I'm assuming he's talking about mid 90s-early 2000s Hopkins before he kept getting tired in the ring.

Then he will never be Great! Hagler and other fighters fought Great fighters in their days, GGG is in a pretty weak division so if he doesnt move up to take on the real challenges that await him he will only be regarded as Greatly Popular not an ATG Boxer!!!

Golovkins footwork and how he moves reminds me of WW/LMW De La Hoya, though I think Oscar could be lighter and faster when required

There's so many people who think GGG is so Overrated and it's these kinds of threads that really put that into perspective.

It's an absolutely ridiculous claim, but most claims made on this forum about GGG are, whether good or bad.

    :yep

That said, his footwork is quite good, and I'd say he's top 10 on that front among active boxers.

The problem is nearly all of his opponents to date have simply stood in front of him and tried to block the incoming fire. Is this because his footwork is so good, lateral movement against him is hard to achieve or is it because the boxers he's fought aren't very good? There's no way of knowing which is the most significant factor until he steps into the ring with a fighter widely regarded as elite level. He can't be ranked 'best ever' anything until he takes on a better class of fighter. If that means moving up in weight, then so he must.

Most ATGs (heavyweights apart) have operated in more than one weight class in search of career-defining fights, so it's something he needs to do, especially as MW is such a poor division at the moment. Hagler didn't need to go up in weight because he had so many great fights to make at 160. GGG doesn't have that luxury. And yet he seems to want to take the easiest route possible to the hall of fame.

I hope you're not talking to me because if you're, you're the one that needs to leave. Hopkins footwork is much better than GGG's it's not even worthy of debate. Hopkins has some of the best footwork I've seen. People who actually know boxing will agree.:deal

Your right about guys trying to block incoming fire and just standing there.

Opponents do this for a variety of reasons.

    1. There is nowhere to go. Golovkin traps people against the ropes.

    2. Everybody is covering up because throwing a punch usually means you get hit back. And GGG has very solid power.

So it's that combination that nobody has come close to solving yet.
