One of the all-time classic NFL playoff overtime games, to be exact.

33.7 million viewers in the U.S. watched the Green Bay-Cardinals game airing at the same time as the Wilder fight.

that more than likely has a big part to play, however I don't think its good for haymon and pbc to keep having low viewing numbers

If it really did 500k that's a great number. He was, after all, facing a guy who is unranked, below the radar and mad.

I agree. Five times as many people watched the Wilder-Szpilka fight online - where Showtime broadcast the fight on its YouTube site.

So millions actually saw it, just not all live. For whatever that's worth.

David Haye got 3m viewers for a complete mismatch in the UK on a little known TV channel.

hmm strange, I think haymon could be in bother, waddle and reed are doing poorly, pbc is losing a lot of money and now top rank have won the initial stage of the court case against haymon so top rank lawyers can now exam all the pbc finances. The cheque made directly from haymon to Chavez jr could be enough to validate the lawsuit

Meanwhile, in the UK, with a country that is 5x smaller than the USA population wise. A boxer (David Haye) came out of retirement after 3 and a half years, to fight a guy nobody has ever heard of and it recieved 6x the viewing figures (3 million views).

I can only think of 5 reasons...
    1) US descriminates against it's black boxers
    2) Boxing in UK is more popular
    3) Wilder is just not that good
    4) Americans would rather watch Hand Egg.
    5) All of the above

I'm not sure what the equivalent of the NFL playoffs are in the UK, but Haye wasn't up against that in his own country.

And, Dave is a free channel in the UK. Showtime had a free weekend, for those with cable, but if you don't have cable, you had to watch the fight live on Youtube. And several million people did that.

Not much different in the viewers, actually.

On Youtube, the Haye fight had about 28,000 viewers. (That's where I watched it, and that's what the count was when it ended.) So basically everyone in England watched it on TV.

The majority of people who watched the Wilder fight watched it online ... because an epic playoff game was on.

Again, not sure what that means, other than the NFL still rules here.

I actually was watching the Wilder fight on Youtube and watching the NFL game at the same time.

Or, an NFL playoff game was on that was an instant classic. 33.7 million people in just the U.S. were watching that.

I love boxing. I'm a Wilder fan. But I was watching the NFL game on TV and Wilder fight online at the same time.

I'm sure most boxing fans here just watched the game and caught the fight later.

Then it is number 4 then,

    4) Americans would rather watch Hand Egg.

I don't know what hand egg is ... but the NFL is the number-one sport in the U.S. and the Super Bowl always has the highest ratings of any program on TV every year.

Boxing (anyone boxing) is way, way, way down on the list when going against an NFL playoff game.
