a risk against who? abraham or badou jack? beside some pounds more, they are not better fighters than the rest of the 160division.

andre ward decided on 3 different occasions not to fight ggg because golovkins name wasn`t big enough.

    so whats the point?

Gigi wanted Ward at 164 but Chavez jr at 168.

    He ducked.

The guy that is allowed to not take risks in old man Golovkin.

At first I thought, GiGi is no Hagler, but then when I thought about it I suppose the OP has a point.
There really is no reason for GiGi to move up in weight. He really should stay firmly at MW and keep earning purses there until one of his favorite activities, fighting WWs catches up to him and like Hagler, a blown up Welterweight challedges and successes in taking the MW titles, just like SRL did to Hagler or Martinez did to Pavlik.

Which WW today is likely to repeat SRL's feat, Canelo, Imam, Lara?

He shouldn't be hated on at all, but his circumstances are very different.

Hagler and Monzon didn't move up, because they had big fights at MW and there was no SMW division back then. The jump to LHW was just too big, especially for Hagler. He often weighed in under the MW limit with a same day weigh in. There's no way he could have fought Spinks. It would be like asking GG to fight Kovalev.

I'd like to see GG move up after he's accomplished all he can at MW. And I think he will.

So you're saying he has to earn his shot before fighting "good" middleweights by fighting good middleweights who don't want to give him a handout?:patsch

How old will GG be once he accomplishes all he can at MW?

He is not some young kid that has time to fart around in a dead division.

The thing is that it's not that people don't want to give GGG a "handout", what's happening is that they hope he gets beat (by moving up for example to fight bigger guys) without getting his fair shot first. This is what is going on.

    Exactly.

Differen't eras, different circumstances. No SMW division back then.

Nobody expected Marvin to fight Spinks.

Spinks was 6'2, and according to Mackie Shilstone, he had a walking around weight of 180-190 pounds.

Nobody is demanding that GG fights Kovalev.

Time is against him. But if he wants to stay and obtain all of the MW belts, that's his prerogative. It's a prestigious division and he's not a big guy anyway.

There's some good fights at MW for him if he can land them.

I'd love to see him fight Canelo, Quillin, Saunders and Eubank.

I was once desperate to see him move up to SMW. Because I'd have loved to have seen him fight De Gale, Froch, Ward and Andre Dirrell. But I've now changed my mind. Because 2 of those guys have now gone, and Andre Dirrell doesn't look as though he's going to do anything now. So if he moved up, who would he fight? The MW division now appears to be getting a little stronger with more competition, whereas it's the complete opposite for the SMW division.
