Gamboa gets main event spot! Originally the May 17 HBO BAD tripleheader was promoted as the Angulo-Gutierrez fight as the main event. Also it was 'BAD - Angulo-Gutierrez' in the schedule, but now it's 'BAD - Gamboa vs. Jimenez', and the article for the upcoming event names Gamboa's fight as the main event. So after all, Gamboa will fight in the main event in his HBO debut!
"Overrated" Yuriorkis Gamboa is more than happy to fight for the title Manny Pacquiao previously held: the WBC international title at SFW. "Of course, it is a great honour to fight for this belt", states Gamboa. "Especially as this in only my tenth professional fight. I am glad that my performances so far have convinced the sanctioning bodies to put me very high in the ratings and I am willing to prove that I am the best boxer in the world." At the moment Gamboa is rated on No. 3 in the WBA and on No. 4 in the WBC world rankings.. "I know that Jimenez is a tough opponent", continues Gamboa, "but I also know that to be the best you have to beat the best. And that is what I will do. After winning the WBC international title I will try to get my hands on the belt Pacquiao’s wearing right now. Though I hope that he doesn’t put it down so I will have the chance to take it from him in the ring." While it sounds like a press release well-written by someone at Arena - and of course PacMan is moving up in weight, it's good the hear that Gamboa is making noise with his words. In the meantime, he should really shine vs. Jimenez, who's a tough and dangerous opponent, and the first real test before any championship dream. :thumbsup
I've followed him since his first pro fight. Incredible talent. Hope he fights for a belt at the end of the year, or early next year. The only thing that worries me is his age. He can definitely become a good champ, but maybe won't have the time to create an ATG legassy.
:good Can't tell you how SICK I am of ****ing Pacqauio and his idiot fanbase. Pac's fights literally bore me to tears, if he's not in with an explosive opponent like JMM. 1 dimensional, sloppy, same repetition of punches.... shame he's blessed with insane speed, good power and great timing, otherwise he'd really be a 2nd cropper. But it doesn't matter, he's there and he's earned it. I'm just tired of him, ready for some new blood. King Gamboa is a breath of fresh air, beautiful to watch him work.
C'mon Amsterdam, Pac is just fun to watch! What do you mean shame he's blessed with unique speed, power and timing? :huh That's he's all about, that's what every fighter want and it take a very special fighter to be blessed with all - like Yuri.
It's amazing how far a fighter like Pacquiao can go relying almost solely on his physical attributes (especially when he was alot the lower weights). I also think Pac was better off fighting with his old ultra-aggresive style, this new boxer-puncher thing doesnt really work for him. Watching him fight early on you'd think that any good counterpuncher would eat him alive, but due to his intangibles this is not the case. Maybe it will be the same for Gamboa.:yep
I wonder how Gamboa will react, when someone doesn't crumble from his offensive arsenal. Only then will we know how great Gamboa will be.
