Archie Moore vs Jack Johnson's title fight opponents when he was Champion

Johnson was 4-1 with 2 draws vs. the below opponents defending his title. Would Archie Moore do better, about the same or worse?

    Philadelphia Jack O'Brien
    Stanley Ketchel
    Jim Jeffries
    Fireman Jim Flynn
    Battling Jim Johnson
    Frank Moran
    Jess Willard

I see Moore going 6-1 here. The only one I see beating him is Willard. I'm assuming its the same number of rounds as when Willard fought Johnson. If so Willard has great a chance of taking everything Moore can throw and wearing him down. Everyone else is getting knocked out expect maybe O'Brien he might be able to make the distance. Although I don't know much about O'Brien so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Correction The O Brien 6 rounder was a NO DECISION, as in NO DECISION WAS RENDERED.
Is Moore fighting Jim Johnson with a broken arm?
Is he 37 years old when he fights Willard?
    36 When he fights Moran?
35 And been out of the ring for a year and a half When he fights Johnson?
Been out of the ring for 2 years when he fights Flynn .
Exiled and on the run for the :
    Moran ,Johnson and Willard fights?

Or is he prime whenever that was?
    You haven't stipulated
When you do ,we can give our verdicts..

In order for Moore to do better, he would have to either beat Willard, or perhaps score a knockout in one of the ND fights.

It is quite likley that he would end up with identicle results.

I'd say Moore goes 6-1, or possibly 5-1-1. Willard would be the toughest match.

O'Brien is on film. He's very fast with a jab, but he had little power and backed off too easily. However Moore superior reach 78" reach and better form from the outside I think would be a difference. I also think Moore hit harder than Johnson. O'Brien had a suspect chin.

Johnson's reach was but 74", a bit less than Moore's. Yet O'Brien out jabbed Johnson and was the better according to local / primary sources. What we have here is the heavyweight champion of the world looking bad vs. a middleweight.

    Highly unlikely I would say.

The O’Brien fight was a no decision bout, so the only way that Moore can win is if he scores a knockout. Obviously he only has six rounds to do it, against a durable defensive specialist.

I also don’t see him stopping the highly durable Jim Johnson in under ten rounds, even without a broken arm.

Obrien was rated the greatest lt hwt of all time for decades. Today he is largely forgotten. He was a master boxer. He could beat Moore with his speed and smart boxing.

I do not believe Moore is a shoe in to beat anyone on this list. All potentially tough fights depending upon conditions they would be fought.

Hmmm O'Brien must be pretty good if you guys think he can hold his own with Moore and even possibly manage a draw or a win! What film is their of O'brien any good books about him? The only film I've seen is a brief clip of the first Burns fight.

Thanks for ignoring the questions I posed you in this thread.

It spared the forum more lies.

    I agree.

Though it isnt out of the question that he loses all those fights also.

O Brien v Moore - Two guys who have both been considered all time great light heavys. Neither are considered lineal heavy champs, though O Brien did compete against Tommy Burns in the unification bout. I am sure Klompton will make some strong arguments, but realistically, legacy wise, this one is going the distance for a ND. If Moore trains like Johnston did, he probably loses or at least struggles to make the distance.

Ketchell v Moore - What a great fight. Two huge bangers. Ketchell had the better reputation when fighting, but Moore was the naturally bigger fighter. I cant see dominating Ketchell the same way johnson did, and certainly dont know if he could carry him like johnson, Fake a Knock down and then get up and end the fight like johnson. This is realistically a toss up, even if i lean to Moore. Moore has definitely lost to worse fighters.

Jim Jeffries - Jeffries is definitely a better fighter than anyone Moore has beaten, imo. In reality, this fight turns more on Jeffries than Moore. I cant see Moore dominating in the clinch like Johnson did and I think Jeffries would have had a power adavantage. His precision punching may have hurt Jeff, but Jeff's power also could have caused MOore more trouble than johnson, because he was likely getting hit cleaner and more often. Moore has to start favourite, but it usually takes an all time great to beat an all time great. Moore was not an all time great light heavyweight. Jeffries is not without chance. Moore might finish jim quicker than Johnson, but it is hardly possible to be more dominant or impressive.

Fireman Jim Flynn - This is not the pushover people think it is. If an old Jim Flynn can KO Dempsey in 1, a prime flynn can beat Moore. Like everybody, i tip MOore, but isnt a 100 percent certainty. Flynn was completely outclassed by Johnson. I think that Moore knocks him out, but i doubt he outclasses him as much as johnson did, over the course of the fight.

Jim Johnson v Moore - Although Moore is thought higher nowadays, i really struggle to understand why Johnson is so underated. He has multiple wins and draws with Johnson, Langford, McVey, Jeanette etc. I am not convinced that Moore could repeat this (though i suppose he might). I think i am correct in saying that johnson would be the naturally bigger fighter. If Moore breaks his arm, Johnson finishes him. If not, i think i would have to lean slightly towards Johnson anyway. It is definitely arguable that Johnson beat some better heavyweights than Moore did. Realistically this fight could go either way.

Frank Moran - Frank Moran is a solid contender. Moore beat a couple of guys of his size and comparative ranking. But they were not all an easy nights work or guaranteed win. i dont think that he could be sure to do better than Johnson did. If we allow comparative ages and activity levels, then i doubt he does.

Jess Willard - Ironically the guy who most people are giving the best chance to beat Moore is actually Moore's best chance to outdo Johnson. Moore may just be able to use his power to do what Johnson could not. He has the crisp punching, and might just stop willard in the Cuban sun. obviously if he has the age and activity handicap johnson had, it becomes hard, but i do think that Moore would fancy his chances to stop Willard.

I'm convinced the O'Brien fight goes the difference.

Moore bangs Ketchel out, he is too smart a counter puncher for someone as rudimentary as Ketchel.

Moore played the part of cautious pot shotter against Valdes and can repeat the trick against Jeffries and Willard, especially the versions Johnson faces.

Flynn, Johnson and Moran all lose by ko (unless Moore suffers a freak injury)

1 ) Primary sources say O'Brien was the better. Jack was in his absolute prime, O'Brien long in the tooth! How embarrassing!

2 ) Yes, 37 for Willard and 36 for Moran. Archie was a great older fighter.

3 ) There is no proof when the injury happened vs Battling Jim. It could have happened in the last round when Jack hit the floor hard.

4 ) Flynn is terrible. Archie beats him easy even if he's inactive for 2 years at age 34.

Now that I have your attention what would your pick be for Moore?

Yes, and primary news sources say O'Brien was the better! Do you understand that? DUH.

Stop lying, I always have your attention. It's common knowledge that you need to post last, and that post is usually a joke that ignores all facts presented.

Now, can you give us your prediction of how Moore would do?
