He has 50 year old BHOP that seperates his resume from GGGs.

    Apart from that.....nothing better, nothing.

But I wholly agree he is just as, if not more exciting, and I would opine that he is FAR more exciting for the reason you cite, his contempt for his opponents, and add, he really puts himself out there leaving himself wide open to counters and taking shots.

Someone like Stevenson or Beterbiev could strike first and possibly put him down and out. Though, Beterbiev doesnt counter, and Stevenson, while a great counter puncher, maybe better than Pascal, would likely be KTFO by the first 1-2 Sergey landed.

Ward's hesitance to face a live body in Barrera is not a good look for him. Especially since his supposed objection is "making him rich" where Barrera would be making about 300-350k (about what Stevens got paid to get blasted out by GGG, to put it in perspective) and Ward would be making in the neighborhood of 2 million.

At this point, Ward is just a boogieman people on forums use as the hypothetical "guy who could beat your guy" - going by his record the past 4 years he actually has no interest in boxing against live opponents.

It was a good name and a great win, but the thing that set that one win apart from anything GGG has done (for me) is that he completely outboxed Hopkins and even began to put a legit beating on him at the end, something few people have done to ol Bernard. In fact, I don’t recall seeing anyone around here talking about Kovalev outboxing Hopkins as even being a possibility going in to that fight. I have no doubt that GGG beats Canelo, Lara, and anyone else at 160, but he has yet to face someone with the pedigree of a Bernard Hopkins. That is why I rate that win so high, but I can see how others refuse to put one win over an entire resume.

As far as Kovalev vs Stevenson - it would be one of the best fights possible now because of the reasons you stated. A lot of people are writing off Adonis pretty quickly in terms of that match up, but his stance and power will absolutely make things interesting. If he lands flush and SK takes it no problem, it'll be a long night for the former pimp.

    :hey

Great post IHF.......Pimps only chances are KOing Sergey, but he's shown solid whiskers vs lesser punchers.

We'll see if Duva can work some magic with HBO and get a PPV lined up for that fight.

As for outboxing BHOP....I do fully give Sergey credit for that. He fought very smart not allowing himself to be lured into a foul fest and hurt BHOP early enough to ward off any possible attempt of BHOP initiating a foul fest.

Brilliant tactics by JDJ, and perfect execution by Krusher.:good:good:good

That in no way, zero way really in telling who us better. If the question was who has fought the better comp, over all its actually very close

Hops is nothing to call home about, if ggg fought a 19,29,39 or 49 year old hop, he'd while the floor with him and tko that a$$.

On this forum resumes seem to fight, but fyi: they never had and never will

I agree with Ward on this in that Kovalev is the superior boxer. Kov beat a legend on the terms of what made him a legend. Intelligent boxing. And almost took him out with his Krushing power. He also destroyed Pascal and Cleverley and even KO'ed Darnell Boone for good measure in their second matchup with the feared Boone who KO'ed Stevenson calling him the most devastating puncher ever.

GGG looked real vulnerable and dumb against Willie monroe. He is not in Kovalevs league just on a fundamental boxing level. He's good and maybe even very good but not great. I think he will lose against a skilled strong opponent - just a matter of time. Wish him well though as he seems a decent guy.

Golovkin never looked vulnerable against Monroe it was like a car playing with a mouse throughout.

Both fighters are excellent but Kovalev has the better resume.

Golovkin needs a fellow 160lb fighter to man up, but i can see Kovalev top of the P4P rankings at the end of the year. If Ward keeps his word and fights Kovalev I think it will be a great win for Krusher.

He took a lot of punches. A fighter with power would have taken his head off. And if it really is true that he wants to make big drama game and extend the fight then that is really lame on many levels. For one, he is then making Willie seem better than he is, which is dishonest. And keeping a fight going longer when you can end it sooner is dumb since you are allowing for things to potentially fall against you. His defense looked wack and his excuse for it wacker. A good fighter with power will immolate him.

If that happens you can bet that Ward will be suddenly considered "past prime due to long inactivity" by the usual morons.
