The Manassa Mauler goes up against The Easton Assassin. 15 rounds.

Holmes, who had a chip on his shoulder as big as Dempsey would crush Dempsey in about 6.I don't think Dempsey would even get near.

    Holmes for me.

He always has the weakness in that he showed a propensity to brawl inside which isn't where his best range is, but he definitely has the tools to jab and move for 15, with the odd spiteful straight right thrown in to keep Jack honest.

Holmes would hurt him by throwing down the middle of Dempsey's wide swings.

    Holmes makes him look amateurish.

Dempsey holds an advantage stylistically. He also benefits from being quicker than virtually anyone Holmes fought. I don't think Holmes has much success at all with his jab, aiming at a much smaller target is completley different and as I'm assuming he doesn't have this kind of success with the jab, i can picture him being less fluid and struggle to find a consistent rhythm.

Bit of a toss up, but I'll Demspey by a hair

Yeah, there's no way Holmes could pull off what the mighty Bill Brennan almost achieved on a prime Dempsey.

Dempsey was no "wild swinger". He was as compact a puncher ever in hwt history. 6 inch body punches that could cripple. 6 inch head shots that had ko power. Fleischer rated Dempseys combination of a right to the heart followed by a left hook to the jaw the most devastating combination in boxing history.

Jack Sharkey, a 200 pound hwt champion and top contender for better part of a decade stated the following concerning Dempsey:

"I never thought anyone could hit that hard"

"If Dempsey hit you in the should he breaks your shoulder. If he hits you to the body it felt like his fist was coming out your back. I he hit you on the hip he dislocated your hip."

Sharkey was the only man to fight both Dempsey and Louis. He felt Dempsey hit harder. That's a very hard puncher.

Holmes was ALWAYS open for a right hand over his low/dropped jab. I believe Dempsey would exploit this flaw for the KO win.

Great comment. Snipes came close, real close. In fact, the stoppage was questionable and may have rescued Holmes from another sneak-right that could have done the job. Dempsey by KO.

Mismatch Holmes big. Dempsey for all the press he gets couldnt carry Larrys jockstrap lol. Gene Tunney gave Dempsey a boxing lesson twice. Imagine what a bigger faster meaner Holmes would do to him. Tex Cobb? Marvis Frazier? Or something in between. Either way a bad night for tha M****sa Mauler.

Jack would be a handful for a few rounds, but Holmes would outbox him, bust him up, stop him on cuts or something.

I think Dempsey would have a reasonable chance of an early KO. But if Larry sticks and moves, uses his jab until the hurricane blows out, he would probably take it on points.

All very hypothetical because both have wins where they looked unbeatable and both have some scary moments where you can say "if THAT guy could get to him, then X certainly will."
