H2H Benitez is the GOAT at 140

Duran and Hagler really weren't at their best though. And Duran wouldn't have been the champion if he had lost the first time.

I don't really think Leonard's win over Benitez is more significant than Mayweather's win over Corrales, especially considering Mayeeather's performance.

Hagler was an aging linear champion--sounds like Mosley

Benitez was a young undefeated champion who would go on to be a multi division champ-- sounds like Alvarez

Duran left the lightweight title to fight for the 147 belt and was top 3 in boxing--sounds like Marquez

Hearns was a rangy undefeated champion with some of the best power ever for his division--sounds like Corrales

 

Benitez would easily beat him given the size disparity, but Corrales stopped Castillo, Freitas, Garcia, Manfredy and Gainer, and decisioned Casamayor. He was legitimately top 5 pfp when he fought Mayweather. It's a resume not far off from Benitez's if you forget his young age and realize that Duran was spotty as hell by that point.

 

You can't be serious, are you? Diego was a very good fighter, but theirs a big difference, at least to me with very good, great, and special, Benitez talent level was special, now he didn't always perform on that special level, the lifestyle caught up to him. To compare Corrales to Benitez is to be respectful, crazy.

 

If you adjust Corrales' size for 140, he would've been a 6'1 monster at that weight with power on par with anyone ever in that division. It would've been a great fight to see him in with Benitez if that version existed. The actual version was too small.

 

Hagler was considered an A.T.G was the natural middleweight, Mosley looked like he had the tools to be a A.T.G but got exposed early,plus, Mosley being 39, was a lot farther way from prime Then Hagler at 32, Benitez, did win multi titles, Alvarez, you did say he's won 1 title right. Duran went all the way up to super middle successfully and carried his power with him, Marquez has been almost a complete failure at welterweight, Thomas Hearns and D.Corrales comparison is crazy, and not worth talking about.

 

1. Mosley was likely juiced and wasn't 39 years old. He aged differently than Hagler. I'll give you that Hagler was better at the time of the Leonard fight, but Floyd outperformed Leonard.
2. Alvarez is legitimately a two division champ
3. You say Duran successfully went to 168 and Marquez wasn't successful at at 147. Well, Marquez deserved two victories over the top fighter pfp at 147 and Duran lost basically all of his big fights above 147 minus Barkley and Moore, neither of whom were world beaters. Duran never deserved two wins over the top pfp fighter at any point in his career.

I'd say it's more significant in the sense that Benitez is much greater and better than Corrales.

I think Corrales gets sold way short these days on his boxing ability, especially at 130. He was more Kovalev than Margarito. He was the only guy to do a lot of what he did: (1) knockout prime Castillo (2) fold prime Manfredy and Gainer early (3) stop Garcia at 130 (4) beat prime Freitas, much less make him quit. And Castillo and Freitas were the only other guys to decision prime Casamayor, Freitas with some controversy. The Manfredy fight is a good reference point for what he was at his best.
