They look like they fought a hundred years apart.Louis got on with most of the other ex heavyweight champions or contenders who fought him but I haven't heard of those 2 getting along.
Dempsey was on British TV one time and said Louis had a glass chin, my dad wasn't impressed:twisted:

As far as resume goes, I can't see how it's possible. Let's face it, he drew and lost to some complete nobodies. H2H, that's another argument.

You are allowed to believe or rank Dempsey however you wish S. And I should be allowed to place Jack Dempsey WHEREVER I wish in the pantheon of top heavyweights. The question might be asked ' who
might have a better grasp of fistic history of heavyweight boxers
place of alltime H2H skills, you or Burt Bienstock " ? Let the jury decide.
I rest my case as they say in a court room...

Many who post on here really have no clue about the sport of boxing. So wayyy off the mark.

We all owe a debt to your obvious intelligence and deep understanding of the game, as so well exhibited in the above comment.

I have him outside, but I see no problem at all with his being in the ten.

The poll currently stands at 9-10 in favour of his being outside the ten - this should put paid to criticism that he is "overrated" at least on this forum, because there aren't many great heavyweights who would do those numbers.

No one has a better grasp because they are fantasy fights that never happened.

My point is you are quoting men who have not seen some of the people ever fight and using it to argue against those whose have seen these people fight.

I rank Dempsey 11th, and considering the amount of HW boxers we've seen that puts him in a very elite group.

Absolutely. He is one of the best boxers of all time. The best bob and weaver. One of the greatest punchers.

At one point Sullivan was top 1 of all time. Jeffries was top 2 of all time.

Rankings have to be fluid by nature.

Dempsey is one of the best ever but too many have came after him for me to class him top ten now.

Luf, respectfully, HOGWASH when you say the great boxing figures I quote had not seen some of the fighters who followed Jack Dempsey's
reign. The guys I quote below knew a hell of a lot more about Dempsey and boxing than you or I for that matter, and to deny their expertize compared to the herd of Dempsey detractors on this site is
not worthy of comparison. Here is a few of the great boxing figures who saw Dempsey and the heavyweights who followed him and when they died..
Max Schmeling- followed boxing til he died in 2005
Ray Arcel-a great and highly respected trainer-died 1994
Jack Sharkey- followed boxing heavyweights til he died 1994
Mickey Walker- his personal knowedge as a great fighter-died 1981
Gene Tunney- as intelligent a fighter who ever lived-died 1978....
Just a few great boxing figures who saw all the great heavyweights in ACTION including Ali ,Foreman etc... AND knew darn more about what Dempsey, and Louis and their followers brought into the ring than YOU
and your fellow posters who by what some post, Dempsey was a fraud as a fighter and just a step up from Butterbean.. I, in my long life have spoken to many men growing up who saw Dempsey in action
and I have read tons of information about him and how highly regarded he was in his time and after H2H as a fighter...He was along with my man Joe louis, both the real deal, regardless of some
revisionists on by and large ESB..So S, knock Dempsey all you want,
but veteran boxing people who saw him in the ring, and highly regarded the Manassa Mauler as a swift, murderous puncher with a kill or be killed attitude, who would have given hell to the behemoths of recent years. ciao.

Two things, I was researching for my post and typed S, rather than L.
Scusamey ! And Seamus you think your cute with your old "white guys"retorts. So cute, so demeaning, but coming from you, what else should I expect ? I try to be civil with you , but to no avail...
Yours truly," an old white guy " and proud of it, and I know more about boxing history in my pinkie than you in your boxing books...Adieu...
