http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/boxing/2009-12-01-jones-q-and-a_N.htm Doesn't Big Roy have it on video?
I wouldn't believe Roy's version of events on anything. That guy lives in his own fantasy land. Read that whole interview you posted and tell me one thing he said in it that isn't completely delusional.
Corbett - Jeffries Ali-Roy Williams (over pay dispute) Frazier - Lyle Frazier - Holmes Dempsey-Greb Foreman-Liston
Unless they sparred later Lyle never sparred Frazier when it was originally publicized. He went down to miami and sparred Ali in 1971 while Ali was training for the first Frazier fight. He was supposed to go up and spar with Frazier in Philly but Ali told him not to. He said Frazier was too wild and unskilled and might accidently hurt Lyle. Lyle went to Fraziers camp but sparred Ken Norton instead. It was all documented on an episode of 60 Minutes in 1971.
Sugar Ray Leonard against Jones would have been something. I heard that when preparing for Hagler, Leonard would actually bring in a referee, do ring announcements, to simulate a 12 round fight since he'd been out of the game for a while.
Hey do you mind PMing me an email address? (I'd PM this message to you but I need 75 posts on the site first lol)
James Toney - Gerald McClellan. Maybe not historic but intriguing. There's also a video on youtube. Elijah Tillery claims he split Tyson's eye open before postponing the Holyfield bout in '91. Quincy Taylor almost knocking out Leonard before his bout with Hagler. Pernell Whitaker completely schooling Hector Camacho. Edwin Valero cutting Oscar De La Hoya badly. Now these all could be myths, not sure how true any of these are. The only one I know as fact is the Toney-McClellan war on youtube.
I know Floyd touched on that briefly during an interview, but are there any other people who were there, and what was their opinion?
