I think you are confusing handspeed with pace here. Jack Dempsey and Mike Tyson clearly have faster hands than Rocky. They clearly have faster hands than Frazier too. Dempsey and Tyson are among the fastest punching champions ever. But pace? A fighter having an actual high pace and setting a high pace for his opponent are two different things. Tyson put pressure on an opponent. But it was not pace. Tyson could rush forward with fast leading attacks and was very very explosive but he was not grinding a man down with sheer volume at all. He did not need to. He took Biggs appart at a walk. This was not a pace higher than Marciano but it did nit need to be. Tyson was a much faster puncher though. Dempsey was kind of a spurt fighter. His tempo in motion was high but in terms of punch output, unless he had a man hurt he was not really a nonstop puncher as such, but who is? The hardest I saw Dempsey work was against Gibbons. That was a high pace. Dempsey did exhaust the opposition though so you could say he set a high pace for his opponent. Higher than Marciano? No. But he did punch faster. Frazier had volume and he did force his opponent to work at a crazy pace. Both pressure and pace. The tempo of Joe's own motion was nonstop. He was never still. Did he punch faster than Marciano? Proberbly equal. Did he set a higher pace than Rocky. Yes. Did he have a higher punch rate than Marciano? proberbly not over all higher workrate than Marciano. Rocky used pressure throughout so this set a high pace for the opponent for him to respond to. Rocky used a counter pressure. The pressure created the counter attack and the volume was there when he wanted it. This is where "swarmer" does not really best describe him. Swarmers get picked off trying to land from outside. Rocky counter attacked. Against Moore who he would have been seriously picked off against otherwise Rocky swamped him with a phenomenal volume of repeated punching. If punch output itself is pace then nobody really touched that volume.
Just the cine film clip that you have also seen. I was just placing that among a list of "coming of age" fights between prospects before they made it. Tyson v Green Clay v Jones Marciano vs Vingo What's wrong with that?
But than there are the Charles, Moore, Don C..etc fights were he is throwing 75 to 100 punches in single rounds. Walcott decreased his punch out put with those hard counters and feints. I recall lots of wrestling against Layne.
A cognitive thinker could not only deduce this as a typo but know what the missing letter is and actually figure out the intended word. Maybe you just lack the grey matter.
I was curious once and wanted to know how many punches Rocky threw in his fights. I always heard from my father and grandpa that he was relentless and never stopped throwing punches the whole fight. I was a little disappointed when I saw him and he actually did stop throwing punches. Oh well anyway someone at the boxrec forums did the punch output of Rocky's major fights here's what he had for the Marciano vs Charles 1. Round One: 30 punches thrown Round Four: 36 punches thrown Round Six: 89 punches thrown Round Ten: 68 punches thrown Round Fifteen: 96 punches thrown That's 319 punches thrown in five rounds. I have no idea if that's good or not but it sounds like alot. If you want to read all of the guy's posts and the rest of the fights: http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=168225
I agree. Marciano throwing roughly 100 power punches in round 15 is one of the most insane displays of late round volume punching in history.
I disagree.and the idea that Marciano never got arm weary is BS read his fight reports.Moore was around 40 years old!
