I read that this might be going ahead and maybe the new Meadow Bank Stadium being named after Ken.

It's about time Ken got the respect he deserves in his own City.

Credit and respect to all the people involved who are trying to make this happen.

A bit disrespectful and uncalled for tbh, Ken is being remembered for his boxing career and not what he gets up to after his career was finished. Ken is one of the best if not probably the best boxer to come from Scotland and imo him getting a statue is well deserved.

It's always the same in Scotland we look at the negative and not the positives in every situation, why can't we just be happy when our great fighters actually get some well needed recognition!!

It's no surprise on this forum mate.
Great post btw. Ken and Benny are Scotlands two greatest boxers, both suffered alcohol addiction. Unlike Benny Ken's alcohol problems started after his career so shouldn't come into conversation.

Ken's not just arguably the greatest Scottish boxers he's arguably the greatest British boxer. In terms of talent not many can match Ken. I rate him top 5 as a British great.

When I read statue, my first thought was Gary Cornish standing outside Meadowbank Stadium.

They should give him the job of polishing Ken's statue.

What should never be forgotten is that Ken was undisputed WORLD lightweight champion! Not one of the 57 variety, cheaper by the dozen belt holders that masquerade as champions today. He beat a champion in his prime abroad who was neither weight drained, nor past it. A year later, he repeated the win over Laguna in Madison Square Garden. It took a rampaging Roberto Duran to beat him in controversial circumstances. For whatever reason, Duran never gave him a rematch.
