That's like saying "Yeah flowers are beautiful, but that's what you should expect." No. You just have no spirit, and no taste. For you, the half empty glass sucks because it's not full.

I'm "gushing" because I love the sport. My enthusiasm hasn't been sucked out by spiritless people. And when I see new, high quality footage of an old time great like Dempsey, I get very excited! Because thats what sane fans of the sport do.

Rez, I have your back on this thread. Have in mind this THOUGHT...I have been on many boxing sites in the past few years, and BY AND LARGE only this forum places Jack Dempsey in such LOW ESTEEM...
It is NOT YOU or I who are in the minority which holds Jack Dempsey
as one of the truly great heavyweights ever, in the vast majority of boxing people who know there stuff, no sir R, it is mainly on this boxing forum, who defy what Dempsey's contemporaries thought of him as a great heavyweight...So R, we are not alone, but are on the side of
written boxing history...Keep the faith R...

    I think carpentier was pretty **** and that the film of that fight aint worth much, but;

no he didn't, maybe you just bought the hype. plus boxing is about the matchups of styles, experience and physical attributes as well as levels, maybe you should brush up on boxing.

so because someone did one thing when he could he is incapable of doing something else when he can't? maybe brush up on logic too.

do you really still think someone can lose a fixed fight?

You just proved my point. Maybe you should brush up on reading comprehension.

You can not confer a greater potential by proof of a much lesser potential. There is your brush up logic. You can thank me later.

i honestly don't understand the first bit because you quoted 2 unrelated sentences and replied with one thing. yes, i agree the carp film aint worth much but if you thought lacey looked like a world beater based on the sheika fight then that's your issue.

but you can't deny potential to do other things based on that either. based on the cunningham fight can fury beat wlad?

I see both side here and neither are wrong imo.

Everyone agrees that Dempsey put on a great showing. Everyone agrees that Carpentier was over hyped to sell tickets.

Where's the issue? Yes Dempsey should dominate a man that was one European Flyweight champion. And yes it is brilliant be able to see Dempsey in the best available detail.

There is literally no basis for an argument there since everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet.

Carpentier somehow found a way. Lol.

I suppose you are one of those people who loves to argue that the fight wasnt fixed in advance but then crawks back into his hole wheb confronted with Carpentiers own admission that they fixed the fight in advance and got double crossed. So yeah, Carpentier was involved in fake fights (including to the glass jawed inept athur townley) and yes, he was so overrated that he somehow managed to lose one of those fixed fights.

nope, we have had this discussion before, we both agree that the fight was scheduled to be fixed but you think that means carp lost a fixed fight and i think it means the actual fight wasn't fixed, regardless of prior agreements, which potentially puts carp at a disadvantage. we also agreed that carpentier/'s team trying to fix the fight, and actually fixing others, reflects badly on him. i just can't understand your logic, the result of the fight was a win for siki, so how can the fight have been fixed for carpentier?

an example that doesn't involve dempsey so maybe you can see clearly - caroline wozniaki was a set and 5-0 up a while ago when her coach came onto the court(legally) and was caught on the mike telling her 'you know you can't win this'. she retired a couple points later with no obvious injury. obviously this was a fix, but by your logic because there was a plan in place if she had won the last game it still counts as her throwing the match, even tho she won, seems like a crazy view to me but each to his own i guess.

I have not heard about this! Which match was that - and has a possible fix been discussed anywhere (link please)?

K, let me ask you a question, if Dempsey had fought Greb and the result was the same as in the Carpentier bout would you be saying the same?

Ted Kid Lewis along with the great Jack Britton are so sorely underrated today in the pantheon of great welterweights...Can you picture a WW fight between Ted Kid Lewis and Henry Armstrong, 15 rounds ?. WOW.
