Let's face it, Ali has nothing that will trouble Lewis.

Good point. I accept the style argument, but what bothers me is that the same people who claim that Ali would dominate today completely write of the chances of other stylist from his or previous eras, such as Ellis, Charles and Tunney. Of course, Ali was better and bigger than those guys and would do better, but it’s not night and day. If those guys are without chance and would be dominated by every modern contender, then Ali isn't going to achieve great success either.

And that was the whole point of the thread. You have put it better than I could have, so thanks for the help!

I think for the first half of the fight, Wlad would have the hand and foot speed to trouble Ali and take rounds.

But after that, Ali starts adjusting, using his superior stamina and speed to walk Wlad into counter right hands and take the decision.

Boxers downplay their chances against past legends all of the time.

    Lewis's jab is seriously overrated.

Over rated or not, you never answered the question. I don't think it's over rated at all, it was a key component to Lewis beating Vitali especially in the 2nd and 3rd round. I actually don't recall a jab ever stopped a 250lb man in his tracks the way Lewis' jab stopped Vitali to be honest with you. It certainly helped him with the Tua fight as well.

At the time lenni fought and had started peaking as a fighter especially under steward, he certainly had the best Jab in the world but not an all time great Jab.

ali has right hand and left hand power.

    Lewis has a shakey chin

Speeds kills and there is no defense for it. Prime Ali dominates. Just too fast of both hand and foot. Lewis straight up style makes him a sitting duck. Ali's faster better jab dominates Lewis jab and Ali follows that jab with his right hand over Lewis low left. I don't see Lewis making it 15 rounds. 14th round tko for Ali in a bout he dominates 9-4 in rounds.

Ali definitely has trouble with Lewis. I do think Ali wins because of Lennox's foot work and balance.

I just took a quick look at the Lewis vs Holyfield fight, (thank God for you tube lol) Holyfield was 36/37 at the the time of the fight,Lewis had a 7'' inch reach advantage and youth and size on Holyfield 242 vs 217 yet Holyfield gave Lewis fits, stunned him quite a few times during the fights and pretty much fought pretty evenly with him despite all the ring wars and weight gain and health issues he had yrs prior. And yet revisionist boxing history buff expect us to see Lewis as the ultimate (along with the Klichkoes) fighters who couldn't be beat by any heavyweight from past era's. Yet all 3 has been knocked out by average smaller competition in their primes. Evander was able to Jab with Lennox pretty evenly during the fights. After all jabbing really isn't about height its about speed and timing (see prime Tyson). Ali Holmes Foreman Tyson Liston, probably Frazier and Louis and a less ring worn closer to prime Holyfield beat Lewis in my opinion, with his best chance of winning being J.Louis because of Louis's slow feet and susceptibility to right hands.
