Watching tonight, it made me more confident that Ward would have his way with Kovalev

He doesn't have the style to beat Mr.Ward. Ward's inside game would be far too much. He'll take Kovalev's power away and land his own uppercuts. Uppercuts that would be very damaging :nod

Ward would also box him from the outside and be very effective.

If anything, the fight today showed that Ward will have lots of trouble. :hi:

Kovalev did. Let of his damage up close and in the clinch, and he really likes to hit guys in the back of the head when they bend down, Ward will have his hands full

Both are great boxers, but I think Kovalev's power edges it out, but only by just a little bit

Andre Ward CANNOT BEAT Sergei Kovalev.

Ward can't outpunch Kovalev. Ward can't outbox him. Ward isn't strong enough to jab and clinch for 12 rounds.

I'll be surprised if Ward goes more than a couple rounds.

Fighting Arthur Abraham, Carl Froch and Paul Smith doesn't prepare you for that freaking monster fighting at light heavy right now.

Kovalev will lose someday. But it won't be at 175. And it won't be to Ward. Or anyone else moving up.

It really wouldn't be fun if it wasn't this way.

95+% of the people going for Kovalev, then Ward winning.

Similar to the Garcia/Matthysse situation when everyone was making claims that Matthysse would knock Garcia out in 3, Garcia would never fight him, Garcia is scared, Garcia is this, Garcia is that.

Just setting yourselves up for an epic fail, as usual.

    Lovely to see.

Power is good to have but skills pay bills.:deal

    Ward is better skilled.

Andre is going to set a pace Kovalev can't adjust to,a pace that will make his defensive lapses even more pronounced.:yep

Ward will have to do a lot to get inside

Kovalev hits extremely hard but has the jab and foot work to keep range

I'm not saying this is one sided but I think Ward is going to be the underdog for the first time since Kessler and for good reason

    When will they ever learn?

They see a puncher beating on some hapless victim and they get all emotional.

You'd think following Margarito would have tought them better:lol:

Danny Garcia turned pro at welterweight and moved down to grab his first title. Garcia was always the bigger guy.

This situation is nothing like that.

Sergei Kovalev is a big light heavyweight. He didn't start at middleweight and come up. And Andre Ward didn't turn pro at cruiserweight and go down.

Kovalev is the bigger, stronger, champ on a roll. Ward is a guy coming up who hasn't been active much at all.

This fight is more like a Terry Norris-Ray Leonard matchup ... with Ward playing the role of Leonard.

Kovalev might carry Ward and torture him in front of Ward's Oakland audience. Or Kovalev might end it early.

But Ward has no chance. Unless Kovalev slips on a wet spot on an ad in the ring and hurts his knee.

Other than that, Ward has little to no chance. That's why he isn't in any hurry at all. He can't win it. He knows it.

Why does Ward have to get on the inside?

Kovalev is always open from the outside....because everything he throws drops to his ba.lls.

When Sergey gets close he's usually SQUARED-UP.

    A fighter that squares-up ain't beating Andre Ward:deal

I think on the inside is where Ward has his advantage, I think in close he takes fire off Kovalevs punches and can really make use of the left hook

Kovalev can fight on the inside or the outside. And he's stronger than Ward. This isn't like grabbing Allen Green or Arthur Abraham and tying him up.

Ward can't win. Inside. Outside. Boxing. Punching.

It'll be someone from cruiserweight who beats "this" Kovalev. Not some cutie, jab and grabber, who takes years off and is moving up.

Funny, using the Leonard/Camacho fight to support your point. :nut:lol:

Funny how people weren't saying this when the fight was happening.

    20/20 hindsight, it's funny ain't it?

You've just put kovalev and matty in the same league, in your view. We are talking about journeyman and a true great, and they're the same to you. Holy lord.

Kovalev is MORE skilled than ward, I can't say ward is close to kovalev in anything. What ward are guys seeing ? I could not imagine how badly kovalev would mope the floor with everyone ward has ever seen. We are talking the current kovalev.

Unless ward is drastically better at lhw, I doubt he ever fights kovalev unless he takes a low level lhw instead of barerra. Barrera has shown me more usable lhw skill than ward has, ever

Please, oh please make ward barrera and make ward a good favorite

    True...

I was just pointing out that he does not have to get inside to win this fight.

I think Kovalev is there to be had.Especially for a guy on Ward's level.
