What happened at one point the guy just stopped throwing. I saw him shake out his right hand 2x, is there a report of a busted hand or some other injury? The guy just stopped throwing at one point (when Lamps asked Hops why he's not throwing).
It really was a very disappointing performance from Pascal. He showed heart in taking the punishment and asking Roach for one more round, but there really was no ambition from him.
After getting hurt in the 2nd round it was all down a straight mountain without a parachute or flapping of pascal arms. By round 3 he was taking a one sided beating that just got hardener harder than pascall was able to charge. Each passing round 5 ward was a shot done fighter that couldn't. By the independent scoring system marq was fully open t If one changes did he's already head and shoulders above shampoo/conditioning products you think any fighter is granted fight access. I highly doubt dsg is looking for their next opponents opportunity. If ones looking for any successfully open opponents from Chavez was the only fighter willing to risk losing as much as jr. I can't recall any fighters from ggg'stand opportunity littered past title defensive listing that had tried to win, trying to win and trying to survive are very different approaches. So far, i've seen only opponents trying to survive. Possible, ward might end up trying to win, Though, as unlikely as it sounds jr doesn't have more than a single chance left, here or there. I can't see this being the case, with Ward sog Sono***oodboy
Pascal is a brave fighter and hung in there longer than I think many others could have. He also showed a great chin
In his post fight interview, Pascal basically said that Kovalev's power with both hands, was too much to deal with. That is the most important reason for the low output. He was simply in survival mode and had no solution to overcome that power.
Yeah it was around the 3rd or 4th, strange how he automatically shut off. He's probably done, hasn't looked good in 2 fights now.
He might have hurt his hand, but then why didn't he use his other hand? What it looked like to me is that he realized that Kovalev had nearly knocked him out and then backed off to play with him, and could still knock him out at any time. If Kovalev wasn't going to knock him out, and the ref wasn't going to stop the fight, then he had too much pride to quit himself and would take the beating he had coming until someone else stepped in. He might have even thought that he could play defense indefinitely, sort of like Hopkins, and make it to the final bell. Or he might have had a nervous breakdown like Oliver McCall did against Lennox Lewis. He might have mentally quit like Brandon Rios against Timothy Bradley and was just looking for a good punch to go down on.
Fighters with cooked reflexes generally have low output. It was like Hopkins when he fought Kovalev, his counters took nine seconds.
