For me the first round he looked a bit tense maybe to eager, but he was cruising by the third round and started to give glimpses of the old GG.

Fourth round he boxed very well and the Italian took that dip on purpose in order to stop Groves's attack. The fifth round Groves was battering the poor fella and the corner was right to chuck in the towel before he got properly ironed out.

    I would give it a 7/10.

If I am honest though I would like him to have another fight against the same caliber of opponent before stepping up.

I wasn't really impressed to be honest. I don't know why, but he seems to lack a bit of fluidity that he used to have; his style doesn't look as natural as it did (or seemed to) before.
    I give him a 6/10.

I like him, I always have, was always a big Froch fan growing up and therefore was "team Froch" in their fights but I don't get the ridiculous amount of hate he gets.

A talented, confident English boxer and everyone gets on his back for it, still think the Degale fight could be huge and I wouldn't bet against him at all

7/10 for Saturday night and he will improve in my opinion

im not sure what i was expecting, but he did what he had to do. I didn't see a vast improvement as was promised, but maybe that will come with time. I doubt groves will ever win a world title, similar to murray, and paul smith. Good european level fighters

That right hand that seems to be glued to his chin now may have something to do with him not seeming as fluid.

When he boxed with his hands down we never knew where the shots were coming from, however it did make him vulnerable himself so thats a tricky one.

The performance in itself wasnt too bad considering hes coming off the back of 3 losses and also with the shennanigans that were going on with fitzpatrick were they were both critisizing each other in public i dont think we could of expected too much now hes under shane mc and the amount of time theyve had so far.
I thought he used his jab well but its now down to shane to decide how theyre going to develop his style from now on. 7/10 i give

Good point re; hands high. He used to counter well when he held them low which was a strong point in G.G ability. Different kettle of fish in the hands high.

  9. The paddy ****zpatrick version of Groves skewed people's perception of this guys talent.

Not a big fan of Groves because he does talk some smack, but paddy sabotaged his progress and any fighter in that predicament deserves sympathy.

You're going to see the real Groves now and if Smith knows what's good for him, he'd take a career up in plumbing before stepping in the ring with this version of Groves.

Exactly thats why he was so successful with Froch in the first fight and against the likes of Glen Johnson, Paul Smith and Gonzales was because it was so hard to figure out where his right hand was coming from.

Groves plays a character very well, he knows what he's doing when it comes to his big fights, he's like a wwe wrestler at selling a fight, love him or hate him Groves will be relevant until he chooses not to be

i am a big groves fan but you have no substance to suggest that groves under shane will be so much better that callum smith will be beaten easily. let george get back into the swing of things and let his partnershi[p with shane grow without needless s hit talking

Hard to rate his performance tbh. The other guy never really fired back at groves.

First couple of rounds george seemed wary of getting caught so boxed well behind his jab which in my opinion is the best in the division. Not a bad tactic at all and he should use it more in big fights to get a breather.

Round 3 groves upped it and was throwing some good right hands behind the jab. Definitely seemed less reckless than his previous 3 fights where he kept throwing the right and missing. Looked like shane has got him back to where he was before froch 1 where he boxed behind that great jab and opponents never knew when the right was coming.

7/10 for me. Definitely some improvements and will continue to improve. No point hanging around at that level for to long its not like he gor blasted out by jack it was a close fight and the round 1 knockdown cost him a draw. Maybe one more at that level but if murray was next I think groves would do a job on him

Agree Groves is clearly levels above those types of fighter, look what he did to Paul Smith in their fight. I have the feeling he might end up another Kevin Mitchell, very talented operator who for whatever reason (punch resistance, mentality, tough matchmaking) never quite gets his moment in the sun at world title level whilst watching worse fighters pick up belts. Not out of the question that he could make another run and surprise me though.

Anyway 7/10 for Saturday did what he was supposed to against a mediocre opponent.
