Think we forget how good Ward actually is. That said, will his strength be as much use here seeing as it isn't against someone he is a fair bit bigger than? His inactivity and change in weight class leads me to think Kova wins but I wouldn't completely rule Ward out

Some good points here, if Ward can recreate the form that schooled Kessler,Froch and Abraham he is more than capable of taming Kovalev,
Personally Im not a fan of all these eastern european big hitters, the reason they are in the acendancy at the present time is there is a shortage of slick stylish boxers, and as we all know a stylish boxer will overcome a hitter always(well Im sure they do most of the time:D)

I always thought Tyson Fury would beat Klitschko handily and I have always thought Ward would beat Kovalev handily.

Kovalev gets hit clean too often too basically to win against a master boxer IMO.

The elite champions like Floyd, Ward, Fury etc just rarely get hit.

Ward will frustrate Kovalev and make him look one dimensional. Already as he has stepped up (admittedly vs a 50 year old Hopkins and a Pascal that Hopkins beat) Kovalevs scary power has somewhat diluted as he went the distance vs Hopkins and 15 rounds vs Pascal in 2 fights.

Ward won't get stopped and should win a wide UD in my opinion.

    Diluted?

Hopkins went down (and is never going to be stopped) and was very lucky to get out of the 12th.

Pascal Just had a few years shaved off of his life (and got stopped twice).

    Jesus...

    Kov wins for me.
He has the superior jab so can keep Ward off him pretty easy with his power. Ward can counter on the inside and he's going to have to get hit to score in this boxing contest and the least person you want to get hit by is by p4p the hardest puncher out there currently. Like if Ward lands his left-hook and Kov lands at the same time you know what#s going to happen don't you? Only one of them will be hurt in the trade-offs and its not Kovalev.

Ward may not be the better puncher, but he's by far the better technician.

Kovalev will be made to miss, and beaten up on the inside.

Ward is far to clever to let Kovalev fight at his range, Ward will keep it at close range, make it ugly and win a wide decision.

Kovalevs offense is scary, his defense is laughable.
