Put prime Joe Louis in the 50's

He probably dominates the era as he did his own, with Liston emerging as the only serious threat, and perhaps the other guy of the era.

 

I believe Joe Louis is on record saying that he would have handled Charles within 6 if he were in his prime, and I tend to agree.

Following his victory over Charles in 49, he'd probably dispatch an aging Walcott convincingly, although Walcotts cautious counter-punching style and awkward movement may provide a stern test.

In 52-53, he'd defened against Marciano. Joe hated pressure and admitted he would have always had issues with Rockys crowding. Despite that, I think he would outbox, and perhaps stop Rocky late, leaving a part of himself in the ring that night.

In 55, he would have stopped the Mongoose without a lot of difficulty.

The following year however, age and ringwear would be noticeable against the young, athletic Patterson who would do better than expected, albeit still losing.

In 58, he faces two young, rising boxers in Folley and Machen. Both make him look bad, and he struggles to win.

Finally, a showdown with Ingo, his last hurray. He would win a war, tasting canvas once the Swede connected on a slow, aging Louis multiple times with his big right hand.

His run finally comes to an end with a face-off against a prime Sonny Liston in 1960, who brutally stops him after several years of wear and tear and age.

Louis said also that he would have knocked out ali. And marciano also said it and it is just laughable. And the funny thing is that Louis was impressed by foreman and he was clearly intimidated for his power .he and dempsey were ringside in the fight foreman-norton and said that foreman was the most powerful guy that they saw ever in a ring. Ali,frazier, foreman etc were the future, they are too much for former champs like rocky or louis. And maybe liston would have been too much too.new era with bigger and better guys

 

i think younger joe does beat charles, good big vs good little and all that.

patterson has a chance, via speed and style, to stop joe imo, but joe by ko gotta be the pick

walcott's an intersting one, best side of 50/50 I gotta go with a younger louis.

moore not a hw, ingo kind sucked, machen/foley not gonna pick.

rocky will have to deal with joe's right too, not writing him off but going louis there too.

 

Louis would probably beat Frazier and at least has a chance against Ali although Foreman would have been too much with his power and pressure.

Joe was not exactly small, and he is one of the best technical heavyweights with great handspeed and two-fisted power.

I think he'd reign as champ though he probably wouldn't go through multiple bouts against the above unscathed. A very experienced Charles could upset a 21 year old Louis. Perhaps his Schmeling moment?

 

Btw. Prime Louis kills Charles and walcott.. Kill them marciano had to work like hell to stop an ancient Louis...it is very evident that would be Louis who would land first and would keep rocky down with combinations. Forget the iron chin of rocky it is a false myth. If an old moore puts him down a prime Louis puts him to sleep for the 50 count

 

Hard to be sure exactly how good Louis would have been at 30.

That is a version that never existed.

 

Galento, Arturo Godoy, Lou Nova, Buddy Baer, Tommy Farr were far better than the past prime light-heavies from the 50s

 

Marciano would surely knock Louis out. I'm reading this book written by Joe louis Barrow Jr. and contributed to by many of Joe's friends, family, fighters, trainers, and managers called "Joe Louis: 50 years an American Hero. I'm only halfway and they have stated and implied numerous times that Louis had a bit of a weak chin. Marciano had too much stamina, chin, and punching power to rule him out against Louis if not any ATG HW fighter.

 

Nobody beats him in his prime until Ali. And nobody after Ali.

 

I think Charles would have been a major force for Louis to contend with.

Is he elusive enough or durable enough, to survive Louis?

Look what Walcott did to him.
