I wholeheartedly agree. Weigh in's should also include hydration testing. The technology is there and it would be a giant step for fighter safety.

Yep, not only same day, same morning. The weigh-ins should be 12 hours before the fight.

Yes....this "day before" **** is absurd....one of the great flaws in modern day boxing that needs correcting.

    well thought out article

Guys will obviously be able to still cut extreme amounts of weight but I think it will curb this problem pretty well

College wrestling used to have a huge issue with weight cutting. Like modern boxing they weighed in the night before, so you had guys making huge weight cuts (as an example in the legendary match between Owings and Gable, Owings cut down from 158 to 142 for the ncaa tournament). What caused then to change? People died. And this wasn't in the distant past; it was the 1990s. MMA is in the same boat. It's a legitimate issue.

Weigh in for Ali Frazier 3 was four days prior to the fight.

    They're heavyweights, doesn't matter.

Except it distorts weights so 40 years later people think they were both overweight and not in shape.

    this is a great idea
without that the dangers are massively increased when guys are fighting without enough fluid in their brains, so despite all of the negatives i am fine with day before.

that idea would mean fights getting called off on the morning tho, so it will never happen.

The issue remains that the brain takes 72 hours to hydrate.

I agree with your point regarding the financial reality.

It's amazing what one can learn when u just shut up and listen. (Or i n this case read). It never occurred to me the significance of the effects of dehydration on the brain, especially doing a contract sport. Thank you for heads up.
