Foreman in his first career was pretty one dimensional. Rather incapable of adapting to an opponent who troubled him, but was very effective at what he did regardless.

Wlad must be up there

 

The truth is that none of them were particularly one dimensional.

Building you game around a specific style, does not necessarily make you one dimensional.

 

Wlad is the best example I can think of.

An incredible dimension but one dimension none the less.

Rocky is another one who had one dimension and was incredible at it.

Corbett as well seemed to be one dimensional.

Some of the great champs are one dimensional it has to be said, even if they were awesome at that dimension.

 

I would say that you are selling all three very far short.

 

Maybe I just rate them higher than you do.

 

I would rate Burns, Willard, Carnera, Briggs and Rahman as all quite a bit more one-dimensional than Waldo... and of course none near as good.

Wlad could certainly outpoint his opponents and when goaded into it deliver devastating power to take them out. If you are talking punch selection, he had an all time great jab and straight right and an underrated hook that he could work off the jab and which resulted in some of his more important knockdowns. He didn't uppercut a whole lot or go to the body, but Ali didn't go to the body a lot either. He also had excellent and extremely nimble footwork for a giant. I see a lot in his ****nal. Maybe if he gets back the title, then the old version of Wlad would be pretty limited.

 

Burns and Willard are good shouts.

Carnera is definitely not one dimensional, he had multiple dimensions that were all ****

Briggs and Rahman both seemed to be able to brawl, fight behind a jab, and fight on the back foot, again though the werent very effective.

One of the things that makes Wlad one dimensional is how good his dimension was, he never needed anything else combined with age, that reliance on controlling range ultimately cost him against Fury as he wasn't able to set himself and didn't have the ability t fight on the front foot and certainly didn't have the punch selection to attempt an inside assault.

 

Burns?

Hell no.

Do you think that Burns would have got within sniffing distance of the title, with his stature and physical assets, if he had been anything other than an exceptionally complete fighter?
